Real Madrid are trying to sign Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski

The front page of AS has a dramatic headline on Monday: Operation Lewandowski.

According to the Spanish daily, Real Madrid are trying to sign Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, and the talks have already begun.

Indeed, the Polish international’s agent, Cezary Kucharski, was spotted at a box at the Santiago Bernabeu over the weekend, which has been interpreted as a sign that the transfer “looks good” to the Bayern striker, say AS.

Saying that, AS note “the situation is not simple”.

Lewandowski is currently under contract at the Allianz Arena until 2019, while the Bavarians intend to lock the striker down to a longer deal. Indeed, the German giants they plan to make him the highest paid player at the club, apparently.

Yet Lewandowski’s agent has reportedly rejected Bayern’s first proposal of a contract extension.

Madrid are now sitting on the sidelines, watching how the whole saga develops before making their move, claim AS.

The paper rounds off by noting that Lewandowski was disappointed to not be chosen for this year’s Ballon d’Or, while if he moved to Madrid it’s being suggested he could forge a working relationship alongside Gareth Bale, as Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo could move on.
