Yet because his wages will be so high and because the move has been in process for such a long time, many won’t consider it the true bargain of the transfer window.
Funnily enough, the next player Real Madrid sign could be the best non-free agent bargain signing of the summer 2024 transfer window, and that is Lille center back Leny Yoro.
The 18-year-old was arguably the best center back of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season and is easily the best central defender who could potentially move teams this summer.
Real Madrid have viewed Yoro as their transfer priority for a couple of months now, as he has usurped Bayern Munich left back Alphonso Davies as the No. 1 wish for Juni Calafat and the club.
Per Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna, Real Madrid are in the process of submitting their opening transfer offer to Lille for Leny Yoro, and it will be for just 30 million euros plus bonuses, similar to the bargain deal they got in 2021 with Eduardo Camavinga from Rennes.
Though they play different positions, Yoro and Camavinga are in similar situations. They are teenage Ligue 1 sensations who are coveted by Real Madrid, PSG, and other clubs but prefer Real Madrid much more strongly to the others.
That gives Real Madrid leverage to sign Yoro for a lot cheaper than the other suitors, though, as Aouna reports, Lille will surely push to receive more money from Los Merengues than just 30 million euros for one of the world’s best center backs.
Yoro is a special talent, and if he really wants to join Real Madrid, he could wait until closer to the end of the summer transfer window to help Los Blancos secure the bargain they are looking for.
Premier League powerhouses like Liverpool and Manchester United will make a true bargain harder to come by, but a somewhat cheaper deal, akin to what Real Madrid got with Aurelien Tchouameni in 2022, could take place here with Yoro.
