Real Madrid approach Lyon for Abidal

Real Madrid have approached Lyon about the availability of Eric Abidal.
The French international is in Real's sights as a long-term replacement for veteran wing-back Roberto Carlos.

Lyon informed Real intermediaries they won't consider anything less than £12 million for Abidal, who has a contract through to 2008.
