Madrid says Diarra will remain with the Mali team as long as they remain in the competition, at which point he will return to the Spanish giants, according to SuperSport.
Before that, Mali will compete in the Qatar Tournament against Iran, North Korea and Qatar.
Diarra joined Madrid in 2006. However, he has rarely played this season because of the arrivals of Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Esteban Granero, making it difficult for him to find any space in the line-up.
