Real Madrid alerted as Gerrard's Liverpool future in doubt

A move to Real Madrid could be on for Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard.

The People says Gerrard feels manager Rafa Benitez may not be convinced about him as a key player and could be prepared to cash in on him.

Benitez has bought Xabi Alonso to run his midfield and the partnership with Gerrard has hardly had a chance to work, but it is a double act that looks unlikely to be a success.

The Alonso signing was set up at a time when Gerrard seemed sure to move to Chelsea. His U-turn led to the current dilemma. Liverpool may be willing to sell Gerrard to give Benitez money for players - and the big test will come when a concrete offer arrives.

Real Madrid have made it no secret they want to sign a midfielder in January and Gerrard is sure to fit the bill.
