Real Madrid ace Owen eyes England records

Real Madrid striker Michael Owen has his eyes on England's all-time scoring records.

Owen's second-half strike during the 4-0 destruction of Northern Ireland took his total to 29 - leaving him just one goal short of former England greats Shearer, Tom Finney and Nat Lofthouse.

And with Azerbaijan still reeling from Saturday's 8-0 thrashing in Poland, Owen cannot wait to get stuck in at St James' Park on Wednesday night.

He said: "I saw I was ninth in a list of all-time scorers in the programme before Saturday's game - now I'm up to seventh and one more goal will take me to joint fourth."

"But Bobby Charlton's record is still miles away - but I am only 25 so time's on my side. If I can stay fit and keep performing there is a possibility."
