Real Madrid, AC Milan battle for Benfica defender David Luiz

Real Madrid and AC Milan are battling for Benfica defender David Luiz.

The young Brazilian is regarded highly across Europe and both Real and Milan want to do a deal this year for the centre-half.

Milan are banking on their good relationship with Benfica chief Rui Costa to clinch Luiz's signature. However, Real also have close ties with Benfica, having sent several players to the Lisbon giants over the last two years.

Luiz is contracted to Benfica until 2013 with a buyout clause of €50 million.
