Real Madrid abandon idea of adding ref Megia Davila to staff

Real Madrid have abandoned the idea of appointing active ref Carlos Megia Davila to the club's public relations staff.

The news that Megia Davila, who has been refereeing in the La Liga for over 12 years, was to join Real caused an uproar this week amongst fans.

A Real spokesman conceded yesterday: "The climate of suspicion that has been created has compelled us to rethink this decision, but we believe it's a valid idea and governed by professional standards."

Megia Davila was to work as a liaison between Real and the Liga's match officials.
