Real Madrid, a champion breaking all the records

Champion of the Liga, top scorer in the season, leader in the qualification for Fair Play, Raul was the top scorer, Casillas got the Bravo award… Season 2000-01 has been fruitful. Real Madrid has polished its best medals.

Real Madrid achieved the Liga in season 36 against Alaves, but they've added four more essential points to total 80 points, which is a new points record in a championship with twenty teams and with three points per victory. The whites beat Barcelona's record from season 98-99.

The Bernabeu team can boast that they are the squad with the most points in a Liga with 16 clubs (60-61, 52 points), 18 clubs (85-86, 56 points), play-offs (86-87, 66 points), 20 clubs and two points per victory (89-90, 62 points) and 22 clubs (96-97, 92 points).

The coach, Del Bosque, and his men's progression has been spotless: it's the squad that has won the most games (24) and the least defeated one (6 times). Besides, the whites can boast that they are the most effective on the contrary goal. Their 81 goals earned them the top scorer team tin the Liga, ahead of Barcelona (80).

As far as goal scoring is concerned, Raul has been the brightest. His 24 goals made him the top scorer in the season, ahead of Rivaldo and Javi Moreno.

Iker Casillas, the young goalkeeper, got the Bravo award from Guerin Sportivo Magazine as the Under-23 of year 2000.

Finally, Real Madrid has been the fairest team in the Liga. Del Bosque's men got the least cards in all First Division, 78 in total. This condition earned them the award to Fair Play from the Spanish Football Association. Madridist players got no direct red card at all, and only two of the got sent off twice (Hierro and Roberto Carlos), due to double punishment.
