Real Madrid 2-0 Getafe: Higuain Brace Helps Ten-Men Merengues Best Visitors

The match started at a slow pace, with neither side able to stamp their authority over the other, as danger was created for the first time on 15 minutes, when Benzema passed the ball from the left to the edge of the box to a running Marcelo, whose shot went flying over the bar.

Real Madrid saw themselves reduced to ten men in the 27th minute, when a Cata Diaz sent a long ball Soldado and the striker was brought down by Raul Albiol near the entrance of the box. It looked like a wrong call from the referee's part as Soldado had his back turned to the goal and it would be hard for him to do something with the ball.

The hosts were very close to scoring in the 35th minute, when Kaka entered the box from the left before crossing the ball to Benzema, who chested it down before shooting straight at Ustari.

The last chance of the first half belonged to Getafe one minute before the break. A great cross from Mane from the left was targetted at Soldado, whose header was denied by a great save from Iker Casillas.

Madrid came out strongly in the second period, and Lassana Diarra almost found the back of the net in the 50th minute after wrestling off Cata Diaz inside the box but Ustari denied the Frenchman's effort with a splendid save.

The hosts would break the deadlock two minutes later, through Gonzalo Higuaín, who applied the finishing  touch on a Marcelo cross from the left.

And the same Higuain doubled Madrid's lead in the 55th minute. The hosts put together a fast counter-attack after Celestini was dispossessed by Diarra and Benzema played a through ball to the Argentine striker, who sent the ball home from a narrow angle.

Higuain almost scored his third of the match just moments later, after racing down the right, but his low finish met the left post.

It was a well-deserved win for Madrid, who played most of the match with ten men, a result that puts the Merengues back to winning ways after two disappointing results.
