Real let Congo go

Real Madrid have further trimmed their squad by allowing striker Erwin Congo to join Segunda Division Levante on loan for the season.

After releasing Savio to spend a year at Bordeaux, the European champions have now allowed the 25-year-old Colombian international to leave.

They made it clear to Congo that there was no prospect of first-team football for him at the Bernabeu and suggested he find a new club before the closure of the transfer window.

Congo joined Madrid from Colombian side Once Caldas three years ago, but he has yet to make a league appearances and has only played football during loan spells with Real Valladolid, Vitoria Guimaraes and Toulouse.

He was not given a squad number by Real last season and was facing the same prospect of no first-team involvement this time.
