Real legend Hierro joins Bolton

Bolton have confirmed former Spain skipper Fernando Hierro has joined the English Premiership side on a one-year contract.

The 36-year-old will link up with Bolton once international clearance has been received following the defender's recent stint in Qatar.

"He is without doubt one of the biggest names in Spanish football," said Bolton manager Sam Allardyce.

"I firmly believe he can become a star in the English game."

Hierro is Wanderers' fifth signing of the summer after Michael Bridges, Les Ferdinand, Gary Speed and Radhi Jaidi strengthened Allardyce's squad.

He won 89 caps for Spain and played in four World Cups for his country, and has spent a year playing in Qatar after 14 years at Real Madrid.
