Real invite King to celebrations

Real Madrid are to ask the Spanish King, Juan Carlos II to become the club's chairman of honours for their centenary year.

Club chairman Florentino Pérez together with members of the Real Madrid directive as well as senior players Raul Gonzalez and Fernando Hierro will meet with Don Juan Carlos on November 15 to put forward their request.

Real are hoping that the King will oblige and fulfil all the 43 acts during what will be the club's 100th year. Real are to present Don Juan Carlos with a commemorative CD featuring a centenary version of the club's hymn, recorded in London by Spanish pop star José María Cano with a vocal overdub by Plácido Domingo.

The Spanish champions also have their new strip ready for the centenary and unlike recent models the new kit will not have any sponsorship.
