Real eyeing prestigious double

Real Madrid chairman Florentino Perez is convinced Real can achieve the league and Champions league double next season.

Perez has already achieved many of the objectives that he promised supporters when he came into power nearly one year ago - the signing of Luis Figo, a championship win and the reduction of the club's massive tax debt.

However the ambitious chairman knows that next year, the team needs to surpass itself: "We must win the League next season at whatever cost, winning the league is an obligation for Real Madrid," he said during Sunday's celebratory dinner.

"A club like Real Madrid can't go for four years without securing the championship. We have a team that can win both the Spanish league and the Champions League. In Europe, we must go as far as possible".

Perez recently won the backing of the club's supporters, who are in favour of selling Real's Sporting village to the council - a move that will rid the club of debts to the tune of $US300million.
