David Beckham is disappointed that he has still not added a major trophy to his collection since joining Real Madrid but believes that with Brazilian coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo they will soon get back to winning ways.
David Beckham is disappointed that he has still not added a major trophy to his collection since joining Real Madrid but believes that with Brazilian coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo they will soon get back to winning ways.
"I'm not used to not winning trophies," the England captain told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope on Thursday. "It's the first time in my career that I've gone two years without winning anything."
"Of course, like the rest of the team I'm upset that we haven't won anything. I'm very happy to be part of the team but I want to win titles."
The 30-year-old said that the fact that four different coaches had been in charge since his arrival from Manchester United at the start of last season was one of the reasons for the team's failure.
"I'm not used to having four coaches in the space of just two years and it's not a good thing for the team," said Beckham, who won a string of trophies with United including the European Cup in 1999.
But Beckham said the appointment of former Santos coach Luxemburgo at the end of last year had been the catalyst for an improvement in his own form.
"Luxemburgo is the coach who has best understood where I should play. I'm more comfortable on the wing than in the middle although I'm happy to play anywhere I'm asked to."
"I like Luxemburgo both as a coach and a person and I hope that he remains at Real because he has been very good for the team. He makes the players work hard and knows what he wants from each one of us."
Beckham, one of Real's most effective players in the second half of the season, reiterated his intention to end his career at Real.
"I'm very happy at Real and want to end my playing days here. I want to stay as long as the club wants me."
Beckham also paid tribute to arch-rivals Barcelona, who wrapped up the league title last weekend.
"For me they are the rightful champions," he said. "They have played some great football throughout the season and in Ronaldinho they've got one of the best players in the world."
