Real appeal over extra Ronaldo transfer fee

Real Madrid have appealed to the the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to overturn FIFA's decision ordering the Spanish giants to pay Inter Milan a final 10 million euros settlement over the transfer of Ronaldo, CAS said on Friday.

In November, world soccer's governing body FIFA told Real that the extra payment should be made to Inter on top of the 35 million euros fee after Real's Santiago Solari refused to move as part of the deal.

The original transfer agreement had included Argentine Solari in part-exchange, prompting Inter to make a formal complaint to FIFA claiming they were entitled to additional money for the Brazilian international.

CAS said Real had requested the annulment of FIFA's decision four days ago. The appeal process would take up to four months and the result would remain confidential.

Ronaldo, 27, who joined Real on a four-year deal in 2002, signed a two-year contract extension earlier this month, saying he expects to see out his playing career at the club.
