Raul finishes as Liga's Pichichi

Raul Gonzalez rounded off the season by claiming the title of La Primera Liga's 'Pichichi' - the top scorer in the Spanish first division.

The 23-year-old local lad added two strikes to his tally against Valladolid on Sunday to overtake Alaves frontman Javi Moreno (22) and Barca's Rivaldo, who finished with 23 goals.

It is the second time that Raul has achieved the title - in the season 1998-9 he topped the goalscoring table with 25 goals.

Raul said afterwards: "It was something that I wanted and I'm very happy to have achieved my aim. I knew that it would be a battle with Rivaldo but in the end my two goals were enough."

Raul's 24 league goals this season put him in sixth place in the ranking for all-time leading goalscorer at Real. Raul has notched 125 strikes, behind Mexican legend Hugo Sanchez who holds the record with 234 goals.
