Raul eyes Spanish record

Real Madrid’s striker Raúl's winner against Mexico in Wednesday's night's friendly edges him closer to the Spanish goalscoring record.

The current record is held by his team-mate at the Bernabéu, Fernando Hierro.

Raúl's 72nd minute tap-in was his 23rd for Spain and puts him level pegging in third place in the goals table alongside the mythical Afredo di Stefano.

Real's Managing director Emilio Butragueño lays in second spot with 26 strikes while veteran Hierro tops the table with 27.
Afterwards, Hierro quipped: "If Raúl continues likes this, then my record will last as long as a news bulletin, half an hour or so."

But with the 24-year-old hitman regularly hitting the back of the net, he will surely eclipse all scoring records for the Spanish team, maybe even in the World Cup next summer.
