Raúl Ashamed Of Copa Elimination

Real Madrid captain Raúl was bitterly disappointed with and critical of his team’s performance in the Copa del Rey after being eliminated by third-tier side, Real Unión.

Despite smashing four goals past their Segunda B opponents with the help of a Raúl hat-trick, Los Merengues went on to concede three goals at the back – the third in the 90^th minute – and it proved to be Madrid’s undoing as it was enough for their unfancied rivals to knock them out of the Copa del Rey on the away goal rule.

Although Raúl did not admonish his team’s abysmal defending, he was understandably disappointed to miss out for another year on the only piece of silverware he has yet to win.

“This elimination is another low-point for this club that we defend, but it’s not the first time it has happened either,” he said during the post-match press conference.

“It’s an elimination that is very painful to take. We have been knocked out by a Segunda B team and we have conceded six goals."

“We put in a lot of effort and we played well in attack, but it just wasn’t meant to be."

“Now we have to analyse our mistakes, correct them and move forward with confidence,” he emphasized.

The captain also stressed that their poor defensive form at present has to be shouldered by everyone in the team.

“We have a lot of problems at the back. But all the goals that we have been conceding is an issue for the entire team,” he concluded.
