Raul and Marchena could miss China friendly

Spain striker Raul and defender Carlos Marchena are both injury doubts for Saturday's friendly against China and Marchena might miss the World Cup European Zone Group Seven qualifier against Serbia & Montenegro next Wednesday.

"I am recommending that Raul misses the game on Saturday because he has bad bruising on the instep of his left foot and needs some days to rest," the head of Spain's medical services, Genaro Borras, told a news conference on Tuesday.

"We did a resonance test on the muscle in Marchena's left leg yesterday, and it didn't seem too bad. But he had to retire from training in pain today, and we can say that it is a contraction.

"We will see what happens in the next few days and if it doesn't improve he won't have time to recover for the second game."

Spain coach Luis Aragones did receive some good news with Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres and Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia both completing the first training session, after having joined the squad with injury worries on Monday.

Spain play China in Salamanca on March 26, and Serbia & Montenegro in Belgrade on March 30.
