Ramos handed suspension for booking

Sergio Ramos has been handed a two-match suspension for "receiving a yellow card on purpose" during Real Madrid's Champions League last-16 first leg with Ajax.

Ramos will miss the second leg after he was booked for a foul on Kasper Dolberg in the 89th minute of the game when Real were leading 2-1.

After the match the Spaniard told reporters that he "would be lying" if he denied deliberately picking up the booking, but he subsequently attempted to brush off the comments by claiming he was trying to prevent an Ajax equaliser.

"I was referring to forcing the foul, a foul that was inevitable. Not to forcing the booking," he said. "It was a very dangerous counter-attack in the 88th minute, with an open match and the tie as well."

"That's why I said that I would lie if I said I did not know that I was carrying a penalty, just as I knew that I had no other choice than to make a mistake. And that's what I meant when I said that in football you have to make complicated decisions."

After being charged he went before the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on Thursday and after being found guilty he was handed a two-match suspension,

As a result, he will miss the first left of the quarter-finals if the defending champions progress.
