Ramos axes Casillas on Real Madrid debut

Real Madrid coach Juande Ramos shocked fans by dropping Iker Casillas for last night's victory over Zenit St Petersburg.

Ramos called up former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek as Casillas' replacement and saw the veteran Pole keep a cleansheet in the 3-0 win.

Afterwards, the coach explained: "Casillas is the goalkeeper of Spain, wonderful, exceptional quality, one of the best in the world if not the best."

"(But) Dudek is also magnificent, he had four or five brilliant stops. I am delighted with the two goalkeepers. The goalkeeper is a position of trust."

Ramos refused to guarantee that Casillas would play at Barcelona this weekend: "There are several days ahead, we have to prepare some things and decide on the eve of the match."
