Queiroz tips English to emerge

Carlos Queiroz believes the strength of the Premier League could help English clubs break Real Madrid's stranglehold on European honours.

Arsenal and Manchester United both picked up impressive results in the Champions League on their travels in midweek - and Old Trafford assistant Queiroz puts that down to the heightened competition in the Premiership.

Spanish kings Real have maintained a grip on Europe's premier club event, having won the trophy in the last two seasons, but Queiroz is convinced that could be about to come to an end.

"In the last performances in the Champions League, English clubs did well," Queiroz said.

" Liverpool and Newcastle didn't get the same results as us and Arsenal, but all the English clubs played well."

"In my opinion, the European league that has improved most in recent years has been the English league."

"It's because of the infrastructure of the game, the spirit of the game, the passion of the players, the financial resources of the clubs."

"Those things make it the best league in the world."
