Prolific Eto'o makes Mallorca move permanent

Real Mallorca have signed Samuel Eto'o from Real Madrid for £4.5 million after a highly successful season on loan at San Moix. "We have come to an agreement with Madrid and Samuel will sign for us in the next few days," said club president Mateo Alemany.

The Cameroon striker will put pen to paper when he returns from a holiday in his home country, in a deal that sees the Spanish champions take a percentage of any future sale.

Despite finding the net 11 times during Mallorca's charge to third in the league and a Champions' League place, Real never considered keeping him.

Atletico Madrid's new boss Luis Aragones, who has led Mallorca for the past two seasons, was hoping to take the 20-year-old to the Vicente Calderon with him, but Eto'o did not want to play in the Segunda.

Meanwhile, Mallorca have failed to land a new coach before the Tuesday deadline they set themselves last week, although the battle now appears between the Austrian Bernd Krauss and the Argentine Carlos Babington.

Krauss used to coach of Real Sociedad, while Babington was in charge of Huracan. Alemany explained: "Both have very similar profiles so we will be taking our time to make sure we get the right man."
