ATHLETIC BILBAO 4 RECREATIVO HUELVA 2

A first win under new coach Mane for the struggling Basque side who were gifted the lead when Recre defender Dani Bautista headed into his own net in the seventh minute.

Experienced striker Ismael Urzaiz added two more before the break, the first an acrobatic Johan Cruyff-style volley and the second a trademark header.

The visitors pulled one back early in the second half through substitute Ikechukwu Uche, but midfielder Joseba Garmendia added a fourth after a catalogue of errors in the Recre defence on the hour.

Bilbao defender Josu Sarriegi nodded a Recre free kick into his own net two minutes from time.

ATLETICO MADRID 1 ESPANYOL 2

Espanyol striker Raul Tamudo gave his side the lead in the eighth minute when he steered home after Ivan de la Pena and Luis Garcia had outflanked the Atletico defence with a slick passing move.

Fernando Torres equalised with a powerful header early in the second half, but Luis Garcia secured the win for the visitors five minutes later when he whipped a superbly struck free kick over the wall into the corner.

CELTA VIGO 1 VILLARREAL 1

Villarreal gained their first point in seven visits to Balaidos thanks to a 25-metre rocket shot from Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan 20 minutes into the second half.

Brazilian forward Fernando Baiano had put Celta ahead in the first half when he made the most of some passive defending from the Villarreal back four to head home at the far post.

GETAFE 1 REAL BETIS 1

Getafe looked to be on course for their fifth home win of the season when Daniel Guiza clipped in after latching on to a long through ball five minutes after halftime.

But the balance shifted late in the game when centre back David Belenguer was sent off and Getafe conceded their first goal at home this season three minutes later when Juanito nodded in from a corner.

GIMNASTIC 2 LEVANTE 1

A first home win of the season for struggling Gimnastic, but they had to do it the hard way after falling behind when Levante striker Riga cashed in on some sloppy defending to score from 30 metres out.

David Garcia equalised just before the break with a free kick from the edge of the area and striker Ruben Castro earned his side a valuable win when he clipped in 15 minutes from time.

OSASUNA 3 REAL MALLORCA 0

The Osasuna revival continued with a third win in a row, striker Savo Milosevic breaking the deadlock on the hour when he snapped home after the ball fell to him in the area.

Defender Javier Flavio made it 2-0 eight minutes later with a thundering shot from just outside the area and skipper Patxi Punal wrapped up from the spot after a controversial penalty 10 minutes from time.

RACING SANTANDER 0 REAL ZARAGOZA 2

Zaragoza renewed their bid for a Champions League slot with this win over a toothless Racing who were missing forwards Nikola Zigic and Pedro Munitis after their dismissals last week.

Diego Milito notched up his 11th goal of the season when he drilled an angled shot inside the far post on the hour and fellow striker Angel Lafita made it 2-0 when he slid the ball under the keeper after beating the offside trap.

Milito spurned the chance to add a third when he missed a penalty awarded for a non-existent foul on Lafita soon after.

VALENCIA 4 DEPORTIVO CORUNA 0

Midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo set Valencia on their way to a first win in seven matches when he put the finishing touch to a slick passing move in the 10th minute.

David Villa made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after what appeared to be a dive in the area resulted in the sending off of Deportivo defender Juanma.

Villa scored his second with a cool finish when he rounded the keeper 15 minutes from time and winger Vicente wrapped up an emphatic win with a stoppage time strike.

BARCELONA 1 REAL SOCIEDAD 0

Ronaldinho continued his rich vein of form in front of goal when he found the net for the 11th time in the league this season to give Barca a win that kept them top for another week.

Sociedad, who are the only Primera Liga side yet to win a game, managed to keep Barca at bay in the first half, but the Brazilian steered a clever first-time shot wide of keeper Claudio Bravo 15 minutes after the break.

Barca ended the game with 10 men when left back Silvinho was dismissed for two quick-fire bookings in the final five minutes.

SEVILLA 2 REAL MADRID 1

Sevilla retained their 100 percent home record with a deserved comeback win against fellow title challengers Real.

David Beckham put Real ahead with a wonderfully struck free kick from wide on the left, but Sevilla equalised four minutes later when Frederic Kanoute took his tally to 11 with a fine follow-up strike after Luis Fabiano had hit the bar.

Ronaldo missed a great chance to put Real back in front midway through the second half, but Sevilla claimed the win when Uruguayan striker Ernesto Chevanton hooked in a spectacular overhead kick 13 minutes from time.
