ATHLETIC BILBAO 0 CELTA VIGO 1

Celta took lead after six minutes when Matias Lequi's free kick was bundled in at the far post by Brazilian striker Fernando Baiano.

Bilbao pressed hard but could not find an equaliser and have now taken just one point from four home games.

ESPANYOL 2 RACING SANTANDER 2

Racing went ahead when Serbian striker Nikola Zigic pounced on an error in defence to feed Pedro Munitis, who scored off a post in the 25th minute.

Espanyol striker Raul Tamudo showed great technique to control and level just before the break, but Racing retook the lead three minutes from time when Espanyol's Chica turned Munitis's cross into his own net. In the final minute Racing defender Pablo Pinillos brought down Tamudo for a penalty and was sent off. Tamudo made no mistake from the spot.

REAL MADRID 2 BARCELONA 0

Real gained revenge for last year's 3-0 defeat in the Bernabeu with a convincing win that ended Barca's unbeaten start to the league season.

A fired-up Real got the perfect start when Sergio Ramos crossed for Raul to plant a firm header in the net after three minutes.

Barca dominated possession but were unable to breakdown Real's resolute defence and were hit on the break in the 51st minute when Guti's pass released Robinho down the right. The Brazilian's cross was steered home by Ruud van Nistelrooy.

REAL MALLORCA 0 REAL SOCIEDAD 0

Under-pressure Sociedad coach Jose Mari Bakero could claim positives from this draw.

His side played the last 20 minutes with 10 men after defender Gerardo was sent off for a dangerous challenge and he brought to an end a run of five straight defeats. But they remain bottom of the table.

RECREATIVO HUELVA 1 GETAFE 2

Boosted by last week's 1-0 win over Real Madrid, Getafe dominated early on and took the lead when striker Sergio Pachon ran clear to score two minutes before the break.

But a swift counter-attack by Recre in the 54th minute saw French striker Florent Sinama Pongolle round the keeper and equalise.

Getafe's Manu del Moral headed the winner in the 71st though it took a penalty save by their Argentine goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri in the final minute to secure all three points.

SEVILLA 2 GIMNASTIC 1

Gimnastic were no match for Sevilla early on as winger Jesus Navas crossed for Mali striker Frederic Kanoute to volley a spectacular opener in the 22nd minute.

Navas set up Kanoute for the second five minutes later but Gimnastic, without a win in five, struck back through midfielder David Cuellar in the 68th, after Albano Bizzarri had saved a 52nd-minute penalty from Sevilla's Enzo Maresca.

VALENCIA 1 OSASUNA 0

Valencia were set on their way to a fourth straight home win after a flowing passing move ended with Fernando Morientes nodding into the path of David Villa to score in the 15th minute.

Valencia lost midfielder David Albelda to a knee injury, saw Osasuna's Valdo crash a shot against the post near the end and in the final minute had midfielder Jorge Lopez sent off.

DEPORTIVO CORUNA 1 ATLETICO MADRID 0

Depor made it four wins from four at home in this closely-contested game but had Israeli goalkeeper Dudu Aouate to thank for three important saves.

Against the run of play they took the lead when Cristian's free kick in the 66th minute was flicked into the net by the head of former Atletico striker Angel Arizmendi.

REAL ZARAGOZA 2 REAL BETIS 1

Zaragoza's Argentine trio of Pablo Aimar, Andres D'Alessandro and Diego Milito tormented a lacklustre Betis in the first half.

Aimar's free kick after 13 minutes was not cleared properly allowing striker Milito to poach the opener and he scored his second in the 30th minute after great work from Aimar coming in from the right.

Betis had Brazilian striker Edu sent off a minute before the break but seven minutes after the re-start pulled a goal back courtesy of a strong run and shot from Robert.

VILLARREAL 1 LEVANTE 1

Levante took the lead in the 49th minute when home goalkeeper Sebastian Viera could only parry Olivier Kapo's free kick to the far post, from where Diego Camacho scored.

Villarreal levelled when second-half substitute Jonathan burst through the centre in the 66th minute, and scored after playing a one-two with Marcos on the edge of the area.
