ATLETICO MADRID 2 SEVILLA 1

Atletico ended Sevilla's 12-match winning run in all competitions stretching back to last season thanks to a late double from Argentine Maxi Rodriguez.

Brazil midfielder Renato gave Sevilla a deserved lead five minutes before the break when he drilled low into the corner.

But the game was turned on its head when Sevilla had Julien Escude and then fellow centre-back Javi Navarro sent off in the second half.

Atletico snatched the win thanks to Maxi's quick-fire goals, the first a 20-metre piledriver and the second a close-range finish after a great run from Fernando Torres.

BARCELONA 1 VALENCIA 1

Valencia preserved their excellent recent record at the Nou Camp with this high-quality draw.

Striker David Villa gave them the lead in the 17th minute when he steered a low shot under keeper Victor Valdes after defender Miguel swept a perfect pass behind the Barca back four.

But the home side kept their composure and equalised at the start of the second half, substitute Andres Iniesta clipping home after Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o combined to prise open the defence.

CELTA VIGO 0 OSASUNA 2

Former Real Madrid players Valdo and Juanfran earned Osasuna a valuable win at Celta who had defender Angel sent off 15 minutes from time.

Valdo cracked in from the edge of the area 10 minutes before halftime and Juanfran rounded keeper Jose Manuel Pinto after being put clear by Pierre Webo in injury time.

GETAFE 0 ATHLETIC BILBAO 0

Beleaguered Athletic battled for an away point against Bernd Schuster's men, who had the better chances.

Bilbao had striker Aritz Aduriz sent off for his role in a scuffle just before the break while defender Ander Murillo was dismissed in injury time. Getafe fullback Cosmin Contra was also red-carded early in the second half.

GIMNASTIC TARRAGONA 2 RACING SANTANDER 2

Giant Serbia striker Nikola Zigic scored a neat second-half double as Racing twice came from behind to earn their first point of the season. His first goal was a fine solo effort and his second a powerful header from a corner.

Nastic took the lead just before the break when David Cuellar saw keeper Juan Calatayud fumble his speculative shot.

Zigic levelled early in the second half, only to see striker Javier Portillo restore the home side's lead. But the Serbian equalised again with a header four minutes into injury time.

LEVANTE 2 DEPORTIVO CORUNA 0

Former Juventus midfielder Olivier Kapo scored both goals as Levante inflicted a first defeat of the season on Depor. He opened with a powerful free kick and wrapped up the win with a fine solo goal.

Levante had midfielder Mathieu Berson sent off just after the break for a seemingly innocuous push, while Depor's Uruguay winger Fabian Estoyanoff was dismissed 10 minutes from time.

REAL MALLORCA 1 ESPANYOL 0

Former Barca striker Maxi Lopez gave the islanders their first win of the season when he helped a Diego Tristan shot into the net 13 minutes from time. Shortly afterwards Espanyol midfielder Albert Riera was sent off.

REAL SOCIEDAD 2 RECREATIVO HUELVA 3

New signing Florent Sinama-Pongolle snatched an injury-time winner for Recre in an entertaining match at Anoeta.

Forward Calle put the visitors 2-0 up with two beautifully crafted goals either side of the break but Sociedad got back on level terms thanks to a Gari Uranga header and a penalty from Alvaro Novo only to see Sinama-Pongolle clinch the win.

VILLARREAL 3 REAL ZARAGOZA 2

Villarreal found the net for the first time this season as they beat a highly rated Zaragoza side in an entertaining duel.

Argentine playmaker Pablo Aimar gave the visitors the lead when he side-footed home on the turn in the 23rd minute but former Zaragoza midfielder Cani equalised after the break.

Diego Forlan put Villarreal ahead when he sent a shot bouncing over the defence on the hour and Juan Roman Riquelme added a third from the penalty spot after Gabriel Milito was sent off for handling in the area.

Defender Gerard Pique narrowed Villarreal's lead with an injury-time header.

REAL BETIS 0 REAL MADRID 1

New signing Mahamadou Diarra's sixth minute header allowed Real Madrid to maintain their unbeaten record and notch up a third win out of four games.

Although Fabio Capello's side gave a well-organised and disciplined display they failed to press home their early advantage and looked short of firepower upfront as Betis slumped to their third defeat.
