ATHLETIC BILBAO 0 SEVILLA 1

A worrying start to the season for Bilbao, who have now gone five games without a win and are level with Mallorca at the bottom of the table.

Frederic Kanoute missed a gilt-edged chance to put Sevilla in front after a quarter of an hour but Brazilian midfielder Daniel Alves spared the Mali striker's blushes when he grabbed the winner with a thundering half-volley just before the break.

Bilbao defender Francisco Tarantino was send off 14 minutes from time after earning a second booking for a foul on speedy winger Jesus Navas.

ESPANYOL 0 CADIZ 2

A thoroughly deserved second win of the season for Cadiz courtesy of smartly taken strikes from midfielders Matias Pavoni and Jonathan Sesma.

Pavoni put the Andalucians ahead midway through the second half when he threaded a neat shot past a defender under keeper Carlos Kameni after ghosting in to meet a fine cross from Sesma.

Sesma made sure of the win with a simple finish into an open net after the Espanyol back four were left stranded by a sharp cutback by Fabian Estoyanoff 10 minutes from time.

OSASUNA 2 CELTA VIGO 0

Osasuna joined Real Madrid at the top of the table after recording their fourth win in four games at El Sadar in a hard-fought match against former leaders Celta.

Striker Savo Milosevic broke the deadlock in an even game with a delicate strike in the third minute of the second half when he curled a pinpoint shot past Celta keeper Jose Manuel Pinto from just outside the box.

Cameroon striker Pierre Webo made it 2-0 seven minutes from time when he raced onto a through pass, after a lightning counter attack from inside the Celta half, slipped the ball past Pinto and guided it into the empty net.

REAL BETIS 1 GETAFE 0

Betis warmed up for next week's Champions League game at Chelsea by inflicting a first defeat of the season on Bernd Schuster's Getafe.

Brazilian striker Ricardo Oliveira got the winner after 17 minutes when he smashed a penalty into the roof of the net after keeper Luis Garcia was harshly adjudged to have brought the striker down as he raced into the area.

Getafe were reduced to 10 men a minute from time when midfielder Diego Rivas picked up a second booking.

REAL MALLORCA 0 RACING SANTANDER 0

Hector Cuper's Mallorca spurned a great chance to record their second win of the season when Juan Arango sliced a penalty wide of the post just four minutes into the game after defender Ayoze pushed Jonas Gutierrez in the area.

The islanders are now bottom with just five points from seven games.

REAL ZARAGOZA 0 REAL SOCIEDAD 1

Despite missing striker Darko Kovacevic Sociedad notched up their first win at La Romareda since 1995, Xabi Prieto sending keeper Cesar the wrong way with his 12th minute spot kick after Brazilian defender Alvaro was penalised for pushing Gari Uranga in the area.

Sociedad lost midfielder Mikel Aranburu 18 minutes from time after he picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Leonardo Ponzio but the Basques held on for a valuable away win.

VALENCIA 2 MALAGA 1

Valencia, without top scorer David Villa and Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert, still managed an important win over Malaga with goals by centre back Roberto Ayala and midfielder Vicente.

Ayala put the home side ahead in the 10th minute when he snapped in a shot from six metres after a Miguel Angel Angulo corner and Vicente made it 2-0 when his deflected strike ballooned over keeper Francesc Arnau into the net.

Former Valencia striker Salva Ballesta pulled a goal back for the visitors 16 minutes from time when he turned in a shot from midfielder Nacho but it was not enough.

ALAVES 1 VILLARREAL 1

Alaves were unlucky not to have notched up their first home win this season after dominating a lacklustre Villarreal team missing playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme.

Villarreal took the lead against the run of play in the fourth minute when midfielder Roger Garcia beat keeper Franco Costanzo at the third attempt following a devastating counter attack after an Alaves corner.

But Alaves gained a deserved equaliser nine minutes later when Brazilian forward Nene wrong-footed keeper Sebastian Viera and slotted home into the empty net after a neat assist from Rodolfo Bodipo.

DEPORTIVO CORUNA 3 BARCELONA 3

Depor cashed in on an early error from the Barca defence to take the lead when playmaker Juan Carlos Valeron steered home a rebound after Pedro Munitis drilled a fierce shot against the post.

But Barca hit back when Samuel Eto'o volleyed past keeper Jose Molina after some exquisite combination play with Deco and Ronaldinho late in the first half.

Four minutes later Ronaldinho gave the Catalans the lead with a cool finish into the corner after mesmerising the Depor defence with a quick swivel of the hips and he then made it 3-1 from the penalty spot early in the second half.

But Depor midfielder Pedro Munitis set up an exciting finale with a sweetly struck curler into the far corner. Substitute Ruben Castro then earned the home side a deserved draw when he smashed home a rebound four minutes from time.

ATLETICO MADRID 0 REAL MADRID 3

Atletico never recovered from a double setback in the eighth minute when Antonio Lopez was sent off and Ronaldo put Real ahead with the resulting penalty after the referee penalised the defender for a foul on Raul.

Ronaldo struck again just after the hour after latching onto an excellent through ball from Guti.

He was only denied a hat-trick when Atletico defender Luis Perea turned a Robinho cross into his own net as he tried to stop the Brazilian reaching the ball in injury time.

Real have now won on their last four visits to the Calderon while Ronaldo, who was carried off just before the end with an ankle injury, has scored 10 times in seven matches against their city rivals.
