CADIZ 1 CELTA VIGO 1

Celta slipped off the top of the table after being pegged back by Cadiz.

Uruguayan midfielder Andres Fleurquin headed Cadiz in front from a corner after 15 minutes, but Brazilian striker Fernando Baiano levelled with a close-range backheel just 10 minutes later, taking his tally for the season to five.

Both sides hit the woodwork later on.

DEPORTIVO CORUNA 0 OSASUNA 1

Osasuna responded well to their UEFA Cup exit at the hands of Stade Rennes in midweek with a resilient display against Depor.

Midfielder Inaki Munoz scored against the run of play with a low shot from 25 metres to send Joaquin Caparros' side to their first league defeat of the season.

MALAGA 0 ATLETICO MADRID 2

Atletico put in a gritty display to earn their first points of the season away from home.

Spain striker Fernando Torres won a dubious penalty midway through the second half, before converting it himself.

Nine minutes later, former Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman scored the second with a great run and shot from outside the area.

RACING SANTANDER 1 ALAVES 2

Alaves earned their first win of the season against the league's tightest defence with an injury-time goal from midfielder Santiago Carpintero.

Brazilian midfielder Wesley scored from a corner to put Alaves in front in the first half, but Racing striker Juanjo levelled in a one-on-one 12 minutes from time before Carpintero drilled home the winner from the edge of the area.

REAL MADRID 4 REAL MALLORCA 0

Mallorca conceded four goals for their second successive match as Real's Brazilians ran amok, prompted by England midfielder David Beckham.

Beckham fed Ronaldo for the opener after 32 minutes, and his corner found Roberto Carlos outside the area for a spectacularly volleyed second just before the break.

Roberto Carlos scored from a free kick for the third and Beckham's free kick deflected off the wall to set up Brazilian forward Julio Baptista for the fourth.

Mallorca had Sergio Ballesteros sent off after 76 minutes.

REAL SOCIEDAD 1 REAL BETIS 1

After an impressive midweek performance in the Champions League against Anderlecht, Betis returned to earth with another stuttering league showing. They have not won in four outings.

Defender Juanito bundled in a corner for the visitors in the first half but Sociedad striker Darko Kovacevic fired home the equaliser at the second attempt early in the second period.

SEVILLA 1 ESPANYOL 1

This was a drab affair with both sides perhaps showing the after-effects of midweek UEFA Cup duty.

Brazilian midfielder Fredson headed Espanyol in front after 16 minutes and that looked to be enough, until Sevilla's Jesus Navas crossed in injury time, and Espanyol defender Moises Hurtado turned the ball into his own goal.

VILLARREAL 3 ATHLETIC BILBAO 1

Villarreal secured their second consecutive win of the campaign after coming from behind against Athletic Bilbao.

Midfielder Joseba Etxeberria struck a shot into the top corner to put Bilbao ahead after 20 minutes, but they were reduced to 10 men with Javier Casas's red card before the break.

Playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme levelled from the ensuing free kick and in the second half Jose Mari finished off a fine move with a header. Midfielder Marcos Senna fired in the third from 25 metres.

BARCELONA 2 REAL ZARAGOZA 2

Zaragoza stunned Barca with two quick goals at the start of the second half as first Argentinian defender Gabriel Milito headed home Savio's flicked on free kick. Milito's brother Diego followed up Savio's long range shot to score the second.

Barca were back in the game when Paraguayan defender Delio Toledo brought down Dutchman Mark van Bommel for a penalty 13 minutes from time.

Toledo was sent off for his second caution, and Brazilian forward Ronaldinho scored from a twice-taken penalty.

Two minutes from time Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o scored his sixth goal of the season, making the most of a defensive misunderstanding.

GETAFE 2 VALENCIA 1

Getafe spoiled Quique Sanchez Flores's return to the Coliseum as they came from behind to win and go top of the table.

Spain striker David Villa put the visitors in front with a diving header after 30 minutes but Getafe striker Riki levelled just before the break, rifling a shot into the roof of the net.

Two minutes from time Riki crossed for midfielder Pablo Redondo to score the winner at the far post. Villa collected a red card after a scuffle in injury time.
