ALBACETE 2 REAL SOCIEDAD 2

Albacete appeared to be on track for a final victory in front of their home fans before dropping down to the second division after Uruguayan forward Antonio Pacheco struck twice in the first half.

But Sociedad hit back with two goals in the last eight minutes, Oscar de Paula looping in a header from six metres and fellow striker Gari Uranga equalising in injury time.

Albacete defender Gaspar was sent off after picking up a second yellow card in injury time.

ATHLETIC BILBAO 0 NUMANCIA 2

Relegated Numancia ruined Bilbao's chances of qualifying for Europe with their second away victory of the season.

Former Athletic Bilbao player Carlos Merino scored the first when he slotted home in the eighth minute after being put through by forward Luis Tevenet, who made it 2-0 late in the second half from the penalty spot.

BARCELONA 3 VILLARREAL 3

Villarreal striker Diego Forlan took his tally for the season to 23 goals with a classy hat-trick to earn his side an important point that kept them on track for a first Champions League place.

The Uruguayan opened with a superbly struck curler and then added another from the penalty spot after Jose Mari had been brought down in the area.

Samuel Eto'o missed a penalty but quick-fire goals from Ronaldinho and Ludovic Giuly put Barca back on level terms before the break.

The Catalans went 3-2 up when Giuly volleyed in from an acute angle, but Forlan earned his side a deserved point when he lobbed in from the edge of the area 20 minutes from time.

DEPORTIVO CORUNA 0 REAL MALLORCA 3

Japan forward Yoshito Okubo inspired Mallorca to a vital win that lifted the islanders out of the relegation zone for the first time since September.

He provided the cross for midfielder Franciso Javier Farinos to smash home from point-blank range in the ninth minute before setting up Venezuelan forward Juan Arango for the second late in the first half.

The Japan striker then scored midway through the second half to wrap up an emphatic victory, latching on to a neat chipped pass from Arango and firing a shot under Deportivo keeper Gustavo Munua.

Long-serving Deportivo midfielders Mauro Silva and Fran were given a rousing send-off in their final home match before hanging up their boots but there was little else for the home fans to cheer.

GETAFE 0 SEVILLA 0

Sevilla missed their chance to return to the Champions League berths as they lost to gritty Getafe whose fans were in festive mood for the last home game of the season.

The Andalucians were strangely off form and it was the home side who came closest to snatching a win when they had a goal disallowed in each half for offside.

LEVANTE 0 VALENCIA 0

A terrible result for both sides. Valencia now have only a slim chance of qualifying for the UEFA Cup while neighbours Levante have dropped into the relegation zone for the first time this season following Mallorca's victory at Deportivo.

Valencia's Pablo Aimar hit the post after magical skill on the left and Levante midfielder Jofre was denied a goal after a superb full-stretch save from Andres Palop.

MALAGA 2 RACING SANTANDER 0

There was nothing at stake in this match but Malaga took the honours in front of their home crowd.

Striker Edgar opened the scoring with a firm shot under keeper Tono in the 18th minute and Marcio Amoroso made sure of the victory with a cool finish after a lightning break in stoppage time.

OSASUNA 1 ESPANYOL 1

Unlucky Espanyol will be hard pressed to make the Champions League after this draw against Javier Aguirre's Osasuna.

The Catalans made a flying start when Argentine striker Maxi Rodriguez picked up a poor clearance, burst past two defenders and looped a shot over keeper Juantxo Elia in the second minute.

King's Cup finalists Osasuna equalised when Espanyol defender Albert Lopo sliced the ball into his own net.

REAL BETIS 3 REAL ZARAGOZA 2

King's Cup finalists Betis came from a goal down to earn a win that guaranteed them a UEFA Cup place and kept them in the hunt for a Champions League berth.

Zaragoza took the lead late in the first half through a sweetly-struck free kick by Savio. Centre-back Juanito equalised with a glancing header in the 58th minute.

Ricardo Oliveira put the home side ahead, taking his goal tally for the season to 22, from close range before fellow striker Fernando made it 3-1 with a cool finish eight minutes from time.

Zaragoza pulled a goal back deep into stoppage time when midfielder Oscar headed home from point-blank range.

REAL MADRID 0 ATLETICO MADRID 0

With nothing other than bragging rights riding on the outcome, it was an unusually lukewarm Madrid derby at the Bernabeu.

Real dominated but clear scoring chances were few and far between. Michael Owen missed a good opportunity for the hosts in the second half and Fernando Torres failed to finish off a fine attacking move by Atletico.

The biggest cheer of the night went to Luis Figo, who was given a standing ovation by the 75,000 crowd when he came on as a second-half substitute in what many believe will be his last game at the Bernabeu.
