Barca withstood the pressure from Real's victory at Real Sociedad on Saturday with a win that left them needing to win just two of the last four games to wrap up their first title in six seasons.

The Catalans went ahead when Samuel Eto'o cracked in a superb first-time strike in the 67th minute.

Substitute Lionel Messi added a second just before the final whistle when he latched on to a lofted pass from Ronaldinho, feigned to shoot and then coolly chipped home for his first Primera Liga goal.

LEVANTE 0 MALAGA 1

Levante coach Bernd Schuster was sacked immediately after this defeat -- his side's third in a row -- that left them just four points above the relegation zone.

Brazilian striker Fernando Baiano took advantage of a catalogue of errors in the Levante defence to slam the ball home from close range seven minutes before the break for the only goal.

RACING SANTANDER 1 REAL BETIS 1

Racing can count themselves unlucky not to have taken all three points when they had a perfectly valid goal disallowed in the dying minutes.

Israeli forward Yossi Benayoun, who scored a hat-trick in last week's 4-1 win over Deportivo, put Racing in front when he cracked in from the edge of the area.

But Betis, whose bid for a Champions League place has stalled in recent weeks, grabbed a point when forward Dani netted after latching on to a neat through pass from Joaquin 10 minutes from time.

REAL MALLORCA 3 ESPANYOL 2

Venezuelan forward Juan Arango was the hero of the day for Mallorca when he scored minutes after stepping on to the pitch in his first game since suffering a serious head injury in March.

Argentine defender Hugo Ibarra put Espanyol ahead with a 20-metre piledriver in the 10th minute, but Mallorca midfielder Alejandro Campano equalised early in the second half.

The visitors suffered another setback when defender Alberto Lopo was harshly sent off five minutes later and Mallorca took advantage when Arango fired in from 25 metres with almost his first touch.

Campano made it 3-1 with a carbon copy of his first goal and although Argentine striker Maxi Rodriguez pulled one back for Espanyol in injury time, Mallorca held on.

REAL ZARAGOZA 5 OSASUNA 1

A crushing victory for Zaragoza that means Osasuna are not mathematically assured of survival quite yet.

Striker David Villa began the rout in the 10th minute and Brazilian forward Savio added another with a classy volley before the break.

The impressive Oscar latched on to a Villa back-heel to make it 3-0 on the hour and fellow midfielder David Generelo added a fourth. Osasuna midfielder Moha pulled one back with a superb strike but Villa grabbed his second, and his 15th of the season, to wrap up a thumping victory.

SEVILLA 2 DEPORTIVO CORUNA 0

Sevilla gained the edge over their rivals in the race for a Champions League slot with a highly impressive win over the Galicians who have now lost three in a row.

Brazilian midfielder Adriano Correia scored a neatly worked opener after some good work from Dario Silva and Julio Baptista.

Sevilla's teenage sensation Jesus Navas, who scored a virtuoso solo effort in last week's 3-1 win over Bilbao, repeated the trick when he weaved his way past two defenders and fired low into the far corner on 20 minutes.

VILLARREAL 4 GETAFE 0

Villarreal renewed their bid for a Champions League place with this high-class victory at El Madrigal.

Argentine midfielder Juan Pablo Sorin headed in after a corner and Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan sent an angled shot in off a defender to put the home side 2-0 up within 20 minutes.

Midfielder Santi Cazorla made it 3-0 less than a minute after the break with a stunning drive from 35 metres out and Forlan hit a fourth, taking his tally for the season to 20 goals.

ATLETICO MADRID 1 ATHLETIC BILBAO 1

A result that did nothing for the European ambitions of either side.

Bilbao took the lead after 66 minutes when Joseba Etxeberria beat goalkeeper Leo Franco at the near post after carving his way down the right wing and exchanging a neat one-two with fellow midfielder Santi Ezquerro.

Atletico, who had dominated much of the first half, drew level 12 minutes later when midfielder Gonzalo Colsa poked home after keeper Daniel Aranzubia had parried a shot into his path. They finished with 10 men, though, after defender Jose Antonio Garcia Calvo was sent off for a second booking.

NUMANCIA 1 VALENCIA 1

Valencia missed their chance to gain the edge in the race for a Champions League place with this lucky draw against their relegation-bound opponents.

Numancia seemed to have done enough to earn a sixth win this season when striker Luis Tevenet drilled home 15 minutes from time after some great work by midfielder Juanlu on the left.

But the Sorians were deprived of victory when Vicente, making his first appearance after a five-month injury lay-off, smashed home an 82nd-minute penalty after Patricio Graff fouled midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo.

REAL SOCIEDAD 0 REAL MADRID 2

A late double from Ronaldo, which came thanks to two great assists from substitute Guti, earned Real a somewhat flattering victory over Sociedad that kept them in the title race.

The striker grabbed his first when he raced on to an excellent through ball from the midfielder, shimmied past Sociedad keeper Asier Riesgo and guided the ball into the empty net seven minutes from time.

Guti then jinked his way into the area from the left and picked out the unmarked Ronaldo with a perfect pass. The Brazilian fell over the ball but reacted sharply to back-heel it over the line and snatch his second goal deep into injury time.
