Brief reports of matches played in the Primera Liga on Sunday:

ATHLETIC BILBAO 1 SEVILLA 3

Sevilla moved up to third thanks to some emphatic finishing from leading scorer Julio Baptista and a great individual goal from promising youngster Jesus Navas.

Baptista struck an unstoppable free-kick into the top corner after seven minutes and buried a flying header near the end, while Navas dribbled past three defenders to fire in from outside the area for Sevilla's second.

Julen Guerrero came off the bench to snatch a late goal for Bilbao.

DEPORTIVO CORUNA 1 RACING SANTANDER 4

Racing moved closer to safety with this morale-boosting win over a poor Depor side who had taken the lead through Albert Luque early on.

Yossi Benayoun started the second-half fightback in the 57th minute, pouncing on a loose ball and put his side ahead with a 25-metre strike soon after.

Javi Guerrero applied a deft finish for the third, and Benayoun completed his hat-trick near the end, capitalising on a weak backpass.

ESPANYOL 3 REAL ZARAGOZA 1

Espanyol put themselves in the Champions League places in an open encounter which could have had more goals.

Raul Tamudo headed Espanyol in front and Maxi Rodriguez rounded the keeper to add the second before the break. David Villa pulled one back for the visitors, but Tamudo finished a fine move to add the third in the final minute.

GETAFE 1 LEVANTE 0

Michel's 20th-minute strike was all that separated these two sides in a dull mid-table battle that pushed Levante down to 17th place, seven points above the relegation places.

MALAGA 0 BARCELONA 4

Barcelona moved a step closer to their first league title in six years as they restored their six-point lead over second-place Real Madrid with five games left to play.

Oleguer fired in from close range to put the visitors ahead after 21 minutes and Giuly headed home Ronaldinho's cross in the 33rd.

Giuly scored his second to make it 3-0, midway through the second half and Malaga's resistance crumbled completely when striker Marcio Amoroso was sent off 16 minutes from time. Gerard headed the fourth in the final minute.

NUMANCIA 1 REAL MALLORCA 2

Mallorca's bid for top-flight survival was given a boost as they edged out rock-bottom Numancia who are now looking for a miracle to avoid the drop.

Two goals in the space of six second-half minutes from Victor and Mark Iuliano put Hector Cuper's side in charge. Carlos Merino's 30-metre drive near the end came too little too late for the hosts.

REAL BETIS 2 REAL SOCIEDAD 3

Perhaps suffering from their King's Cup exploits in midweek Betis let slip a 2-1 lead with Sociedad striker Gari Uranga heading the winner a minute from time.

Mikel Labaka headed the Basques in front after only five minutes, but Joaquin and then Ricardo Oliveira struck in quick succession after the break to put Betis in front.

The Andalucians tired though, allowing Jose Javier Barkero to level in the 66th minute before Aranga's late winner.

VALENCIA 2 ALBACETE 0

Albacete look doomed for relegation after their seventh straight defeat but an unimpressive Valencia only managed to score after Miquel Buades's 63rd-minute dismissal.

Mista notched up the first after 70 minutes and then turned provider for Miguel Angel Angulo to head the second six minutes later, putting last year's champions back in the UEFA Cup places.

OSASUNA 1 ATLETICO MADRID 0

Osasuna, who beat Atletico by the same score in Wednesday's King's Cup semi-final first leg, all but secured their position in the Primera Liga with this win.

Australian striker John Aloisi rose unmarked to convert a powerful header after four minutes and Osasuna hung on to survive the late dismissal of defender Carlos Cuellar.

REAL MADRID 2 VILLARREAL 1

Real Madrid came from behind to beat Champions League-chasing Villarreal and keep the pressure on leaders Barcelona.

Argentine midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot before the break but Real struck back in the second half.

Ronaldo headed home Zinedine Zidane's cross in the 70th minute and four minutes later defender Michel Salgado fired the winner.

Real had defender Walter Samuel sent off between their two goals and lost Zidane to a straight red card in added time for scuffling with Villarreal defender Quique Alvarez, who also received his marching orders.
