ALBACETE 1 GETAFE 1

Getafe grabbed a late draw against nine-man Albacete when former Atletico Madrid midfielder Gabi scored with a stunning 25-metre volley after the home side headed clear from a corner five minutes from time.

Albacete were reduced to 10 men when Uruguayan striker Antonio Pacheco was sent off for a second booking just before the break, although they recovered from the setback to take the lead five minutes after the restart when defender Miquel Buades hooked in from a corner.

But they were unable to hold on against the determined visitors when they were reduced to nine men after the dismissal of midfielder Gaspar after 70 minutes.

ATLETICO MADRID 2 NUMANCIA 0

A hard-earned win for Atletico, who continue to build up points without really playing very well.

Although they monopolised possession Atletico did not take the lead until centre-back Pablo Ibanez powered a header low into the corner after a fine cross from winger Antonio Lopez early in the second half.

Lopez also had a hand in Atletico's second when he provided the free kick for leading striker Fernando Torres to volley home in the 78th minute but blotted his copybook when he was sent off shortly after for a challenge on midfielder Juanlu.

LEVANTE 1 REAL BETIS 2

Betis came from behind to claim an important away win that extended their unbeaten run to nine matches.

Alberto Rivera put the home side ahead from the penalty spot in the sixth minute after striker Sergio Garcia went down in the area but Betis equalised when Ricardo Oliveira converted a spot kick after he was brought down on the half hour.

Midfielder Edu clinched the win seven minutes from time when he latched on to a through ball from Capi and drilled the ball through the goalkeeper's legs.

RACING SANTANDER 1 OSASUNA 1

Uruguayan striker Richard Morales notched his second goal in as many games to put Osasuna ahead after 20 minutes when he rose high at the far post to meet a fine cross from Valdo with a powerful header.

A lively Racing levelled two minutes after the break when Osasuna defender Josetxo turned a Fernando Moran cross into his own net as he was pressured by Javi Guerrero.

REAL SOCIEDAD 3 ATHLETIC BILBAO 2

Sociedad fought their way back from two goals down to clinch a 3-2 win in an action-packed Basque derby at Anoeta.

The home side seemed down and out after quick-fire goals from midfielder Santi Ezquerro and striker Ismael Urzaiz - his 100th league goal for the club - put Athletic 2-0 up at the end of first half.

But Turkish striker Nihat Kahveci sparked the fightback with a drilled finish on 57 minutes and the game turned in Sociedad's favour when Athletic keeper Daniel Aranzubia was sent off for bringing down Darko Kovacevic as he raced towards the area.

Nihat levelled the scores six minutes later and midfielder Igor Gabilondo clinched the win when he headed home at the far post following a fine cross from Valery Karpin.

REAL ZARAGOZA 0 REAL MALLORCA 1

Struggling Mallorca continued their improvement under new coach Hector Cuper by inflicting a first home defeat of the season on Zaragoza.

Luis Garcia cracked home on the turn after a neat assist from fellow striker Juan Arango in the 20th minute and the islanders did Cuper proud with a disciplined defensive performance to keep the home side at bay for the rest of the game.

SEVILLA 1 ESPANYOL 0

Sevilla got their season back on track with a first win in four outings that propelled them into third spot in the table ahead of their opponents.

Last season's top scorer Julio Baptista scored the winner six minutes before the break when he poked the ball into an empty net after charging on to a neat through pass from fellow striker Carlos Aranda and riding a challenge from the keeper.

The Brazilian international missed a penalty late in the second half after Espanyol defender Mauricio Pochettino was penalised for handball but it did not stop his side gaining an important home win.

BARCELONA 3 REAL MADRID 0

Barca outclassed their arch-rivals at the Nou Camp.

Former Real player Samuel Eto'o put Barca in front just before the half-hour when he made the most of a mix-up between defender Roberto Carlos and keeper Iker Casillas to notch his 10th goal of the season.

Dutch defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst doubled the Barca lead just before the break when he drilled home at the far post after a dizzying passing move.

The outstanding Ronaldinho wrapped up from the penalty spot 15 minutes from time after Eto'o had been brought down in the area by Guti.

MALAGA 0 VALENCIA 2

Last season's champions finally broke their 10-match winless streak in all competitions with victory over an out-of-form Malaga, who have now gone six games without a win.

Italian striker Bernardo Corradi broke the deadlock when he bundled home after Malaga keeper Juan Calatayud had flapped at a Pablo Aimar corner in added time at the end of the first half.

Midfielder Xisco made sure of the win when he toe-poked home from the edge of the area after a fine curling pass from Miguel Angel Angulo five minutes into the second half.

VILLARREAL 0 DEPORTIVO CORUNA 2

An improving Deportivo notched their second win in a row and inflicted a first home defeat of the season on Villarreal, who were reduced to 10 men for the last 20 minutes after defender Rodolfo Arruabarrena was sent off for a second booking.

Striker Diego Tristan opened on 32 minutes when he received a pass from Juan Carlos Valeron with his back to goal, turned inside a defender and slotted home with his left foot.

Valeron also supplied the pass for Depor's second, Albert Luque finishing off with a classy chip over Villarreal keeper Pepe Reina on the hour.
