Albacete recorded their second win of the season against a weakened Bilbao side, who were resting several key players after their impressive 2-0 win over Parma in the UEFA Cup in midweek.

Diminutive striker Ruben Castro scored the winner just before halftime when he lost his marker from a corner and headed in past keeper Daniel Aranzubia.

BARCELONA 3 OSASUNA 0

A smartly taken double from Samuel Eto'o and a Ronaldinho effort gave unbeaten Barcelona an emphatic win that ensured they stayed five points clear at the top of the table.

Eto'o broke the deadlock five minutes before the end of a hard-fought first half when he scored with a perfectly struck angled volley after Ronaldinho had chipped a clever pass over the Osasuna defence.

Ronaldinho notched a second from the penalty spot four minutes later after he was adjudged to have been fouled as he jinked his way into the area and Eto'o wrapped it up with his seventh goal of the season in added time.

GETAFE 0 REAL BETIS 2

A first away win of the season for Betis who had to play the last 25 minutes with 10 men after defender Daniel Lembo was sent off for a second booking.

Defender David Rivas put the visitors in front when he headed in from a corner early in the second half and Brazilian striker Ricardo Oliveira secured the win 15 minutes from time when he guided in from 10 metres out after a rampaging run by Joaquin on the left.

LEVANTE 0 ESPANYOL 2

Espanyol continued their promising start to the season when they put an end to Levante's perfect home record with a 2-0 win over Bernd Schuster's side.

Midfielder Oscar Serrano fired home off the post after Raul Tamudo had raced down the left wing and weaved his way inside towards the area six minutes after halftime.

Defender Albert Lopo made sure of the win 22 minutes later when he scored with an angled shot after a David Garcia corner.

RACING SANTANDER 1 REAL ZARAGOZA 0

Racing lifted themselves off the bottom of the table and claimed their first home victory since February when Uruguayan forward Mario Regueiro slotted in from the edge of the area after Pedro Lopez had cut a pass back from the byline in the fourth minute.

REAL SOCIEDAD 2 REAL MALLORCA 1

Coach Benito Floro was given a vote of confidence by Mallorca board this week, but will find himself under renewed pressure after this defeat.

Midfielder Valery Karpin put Sociedad ahead from the penalty spot after Sergio Ballesteros was adjudged to have fouled Darko Kovacevic as he ran into the area in the 13th minute.

Venezuelan midfielder Juan Arango levelled for the visitors when he headed in unopposed early in the second half, but substitute Oscar de Paula crashed in the winner five minutes from the final whistle.

SEVILLA 2 ATLETICO MADRID 1

Joaquin Caparros's young side made it four home wins out of four and moved up into second with a powerful display.

Defender Aitor Ocio put them ahead with a thunderbolt shot following a free kick in the 11th minute and Brazilian international Julio Baptista made it 2-0 early in the second half when he finished off a brilliant solo run with an unstoppable shot.

Atletico defender Pablo Ibanez claimed a late consolation when he poked home after a goalmouth scramble in injury time.

VILLARREAL 4 NUMANCIA 0

Argentine midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme masterminded an emphatic win that sent Numancia to the bottom of the table.

The former Barcelona player opened the scoring with a fine first-time shot on 20 minutes and then provided a cleverly disguised pass to set up midfielder Hector Font.

Font grabbed his second with an improvised overhead shot to finish off a move begun by Riquelme and Uruguay striker Diego Forlan completed the rout when he clipped home after pouncing on a poor back pass four minutes from time.

MALAGA 1 DEPORTIVO CORUNA 1

Depor had substitute Diego Tristan to thank for a barely deserved draw away to a dominant Malaga side when he headed in at the far post four minutes from time.

In-form Malaga striker Paulo Wanchope had put the home team ahead in the seventh minute when he hit an angled volley into the far corner after midfielder Ivan Leko had lofted a clever pass over the heads of the Deportivo defence.

REAL MADRID 1 VALENCIA 0

Michael Owen scored his second goal in two games and his first in the league to earn Real three vital points against the champions, who still appeared to be suffering the after effects of Wednesday's 5-1 Champions league thrashing by Inter Milan.

The England striker fired high into the net with the outside of his foot after Raul had threaded an excellent pass through the Valencia defence in the seventh minute.

Real dominated most of the match but were unable to press home their advantage and had to endure a nervous finish as Valencia pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

The home side have yet to score more than one goal in any Primera Liga game this season with all four of their victories finishing 1-0.
