Reports of Primera Liga matches played on Sunday:

ATHLETIC BILBAO 1 MALAGA 0

Bilbao moved away from the relegation zone with a scarcely deserved victory. Ismael Urzaiz put the home side in front when he headed in a Francisco Yeste free kick in the 33rd minute. Malaga had the better chances over the remainder of the game but the Basques held on for their second win of the season.

ATLETICO MADRID 1 RACING SANTANDER 0

Atletico were gifted the lead in the seventh minute when Racing's Italian defender Alessandro Pierini inexplicably missed a routine clearance from Jorge's cross, leaving Fernando Torres on his own to head in from a couple of metres out.

Atletico created few clear chances to increase their lead but were composed at the back.

NUMANCIA 1 LEVANTE 3

Levante brushed Numancia aside for a fourth win since their return to the top flight. Vladimir Manchev got the first with a tremendous left-foot shot in the 31st minute and two goals in four minutes in the second half from Sergio Garcia and Nacho settled the game.

Jaime Molina headed in from a free kick for Numancia six minutes from time.

OSASUNA 3 ALBACETE 2

Osasuna scored three excellent goals but almost let victory escape them after two mistakes from goalkeeper Ricardo Sanzol.

Albacete keeper Raul Valbuena saved a Savo Milosevic penalty in the seventh minute but there was nothing he could do to keep out Patxi Punal's stunning strike 12 minutes later.

Valdo made it 2-0 five minutes before half-time but two minutes later Miguel Baudes gave Albacete a lifeline when Sanzol misjudged a cross and six minutes after the break Pablo Redondo took advantage of a similar mistake to level.

David Lopez scored within two minutes of making his debut as a substitute and Osasuna clinched the win despite having Mikel sent off near the end.

REAL MALLORCA 1 VILLARREAL 1

Mallorca stay down in the relegation places after a defensive error cost them a win against Villarreal. Luis Garcia put the home side ahead in the 18th minute with a smart shot but four minutes later Diego Forlan was left unmarked to take a pass from Juan Roman Riquelme and score the equaliser.

REAL ZARAGOZA 2 REAL SOCIEDAD 1

Zaragoza made it four wins from four home games to stay up with the sides chasing UEFA Cup places.

David Villa made it 1-0 with a 30th-minute penalty after Savio had been bundled over by Aitor Lopez Rekarte but Valery Karpin equalised with another spot kick six minutes later.

Savio produced a deft finish to put the home side back in front 20 minutes into the second half and they somehow held on as Darko Kovacevic hit a post and had a goal ruled out for a narrow offside.

VALENCIA 1 SEVILLA 2

Valencia slipped five points behind leaders Barcelona after nine-man Sevilla handed the champions their first league defeat of the season.

Valencia moved ahead in the 58th minute with a Bernardo Corradi strike that took a huge deflection off Aitor Ocio but seven minutes later Brazilian forward Julio Baptista grabbed the equaliser after controlling a through ball from Carlos Aranda.

The dismissals of Ruben Baraja and Daniel Alves, who was handed a direct red card for diving, left both sides with 10 men before Aranda stole in at the far post for the winner eight minutes from time.

Aranda became the second Sevilla player to be sent off but Valencia could find no way back.

DEPORTIVO CORUNA 2 GETAFE 1

Deportivo continued their revival, and geared up for Tuesday's Champions League date at Liverpool, with a more comfortable victory than the scoreline suggests.

Depor, 1-0 winners at Real Madrid in their last outing, moved ahead in the 17th minute through Sergio's long-range shot and doubled the lead with a Victor header midway through the second half.

Getafe midfielder Mario squeezed in a free kick in the first minute of added time but Depor held on.

ESPANYOL 0 BARCELONA 1

Barca were far superior to Espanyol but their finishing let them down and they were grateful to a deflected shot from Deco in the ninth minute for their sixth win in seven league games.

Samuel Eto'o fired over the bar when he was put clean through on goal at the start of the second half and Ronaldinho and Deco also missed good chances as Barcelona continued to dominate against a disappointing Espanyol side.

REAL BETIS 1 REAL MADRID 1

Ronaldo scored only his second league goal of the season to salvage a point for Real from what was another mediocre display.

Real fell behind in the 31st minute when Ricardo Oliveira flashed a shot past Iker Casillas after brilliant work in midfield from Fernando and Edu.

Real equalised after 65 minutes when Ronaldo played a one-two with Zinedine Zidane and tucked a shot past Toni Prats from the edge of the area. The visitors finished strongly and Roberto Carlos and Zidane both had good chances to clinch a win.
