ESPANYOL 1 REAL MADRID 0

Ronaldo missed a penalty and Walter Samuel and Michel Salgado were both sent off as a patched up Real Madrid side suffered their first defeat of the domestic season.

Espanyol striker Raul Tamudo had a penalty saved twice by Real's stand-in keeper Cesar -- forced to play on through a knee injury after Iker Casillas dislocated a finger in the warm-up -- but Maxi Rodriguez put the home side ahead from a Dani cross just before halftime.

Real should have equalised when Ronaldo won a penalty five minutes into the second half but the Brazilian's kick was well saved by Carlos Kameni and Jose Antonio Camacho's side finished
in disarray.

OSASUNA 3 REAL BETIS 2

Osasuna twice had to come from behind to claim victory from a thrilling game. Betis took the lead with a Melli header at the
far post in the 34th minute before John Aloisi bundled in for
the equaliser nine minutes after the break.

Edu headed Betis back into the lead 10 minutes later but Melli then turned from hero to villain when he headed over his own keeper to make it 2-2. Savo Milosevic struck a brilliant winner eight minutes from time.

VALENCIA 3 REAL SOCIEDAD 1

Marco Di Vaio struck twice to lead the champions to a convincing victory over Sociedad, who are still without a win this season. Di Vaio headed in the first from a Vicente free kick in the 37th minute and the Italian striker made it 2-0 shortly after the break from a Pablo Aimar pass.

Curro Torres found Mista at the far post for the third and all Sociedad could muster in reply was a late penalty, converted by Mikel Arteta.
