This one looked destined to end in a draw until Fernando Torres secured a somewhat flattering win for Atletico when he pounced after a rare mistake by Albacete defender Miquel Buades to put his side ahead just five minutes from the end.

On the stroke of fulltime Torres created Atletico's second as he danced his way into the area and laid the ball off to Argentine midfielder Ariel Ibagaza, who had time to pick his spot before slotting the ball into the back of the net.

DEPORTIVO CORUNA 1 OSASUNA 3

Two great finishes from Savo Milosevic helped Javier Aguirre's side fight their way back from a goal down and a sending-off to claim their first ever league win at the Riazor.

Uruguayan striker Walter Pandiani put Depor ahead with a first-time shot in the 19th minute, but the Navarrans equalised early in the second when Australia's John Aloisi netted from the penalty spot.

Osasuna looked to have blown their chances when they were reduced to 10 men with the sending off of Jose Izquierdo, but five minutes later Milosevic put them in front with a precise shot from the edge of the area and he wrapped it up nine minutes from time with a delightful chip.

GETAFE 1 REAL MALLORCA 2

Primera Liga newcomers Getafe outplayed Mallorca for most of the game, but still ended the match without a point in the top flight.

Striker Luis Garcia gave the islanders the lead against the run of play when he snapped home a rebound and then set up Venezuela midfielder Juan Arango to make it 2-0 shortly after the break.

Getafe got their reward for persistence when defender Nano nodded in a Gica Craioveanu free kick six minutes from time.

LEVANTE 3 RACING SANTANDER 1

Bernd Schuster's Levante produced a powerful second half display to earn their first win since their return to the top flight.

Racing took the lead with a smart volley from striker David Aganzo on 18 minutes, but Bulgarian international Vladimir Manchev levelled the scores two minutes after the break.

Midfielder Nacho put Levante in front when he slotted home from five metres out after Felix Ettien had carved his way through the Racing defence. Ettien then sealed the win when he ghosted in at the far post a minute from time.

MALAGA 0 REAL ZARAGOZA 0

Despite the presence of new strike pairing Paulo Wanchope and Marcio Amoroso, Malaga were unable to open their account for the season and had to settle for a point at home to Zaragoza who enjoyed the better of the chances over the 90 minutes.

REAL BETIS 1 ESPANYOL 4

Argentine striker Maxi Rodriguez cashed in on some dreadful defending from the home side to notch a hat-trick as Miguel Angel Lotina's side continued their promising start to the season with an easy victory over the Andalucians.

Rodriguez cracked in his first in the 19th minute after Betis failed to clear their area and strike partner Dani then snapped up a misjudged backpass from Marcos Assuncao to make it 2-0 before the break.

Edu pulled a goal back for Betis when keeper Carlos Kameni let his header slip through his hands, but Maxi grabbed two more goals in the next 15 minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

VILLARREAL 0 REAL SOCIEDAD 0

Plenty of chances but no goals as Villarreal striker Diego Forlan and Sociedad centre-forward Darko Kovacevic missed a hatful of opportunities to give their respective sides a first win of the season.

ATHLETIC BILBAO 2 VALENCIA 2

Champions Valencia had substitute Miguel Angel Angulo to thank for sparking their comeback against an ambitious Bilbao.

The Basque side took the lead when centre-forward Ismael Urzaiz completed a slick counter-attack with a fine first-time shot in the 15th minute and added a second when defender Andoni Iraola scored from the penalty spot soon after.

Valencia came to life after the break and pulled a goal back when Italy striker Marco Di Vaio rifled home after appearing to control a clever pass from Angulo with his arm. Angulo secured his side a valuable point when he drilled in 11 minutes later.

BARCELONA 2 SEVILLA 0

Another authoritative win from Frank Rijkaard's side who once again managed to impress without the influential Ronaldinho, who is still recovering from an ankle injury.

French international Ludovic Giuly gave Barca the lead with a sharp close-range finish after a neat pass from playmaker Xavi 10 minutes before the break.

Former Celtic striker Henrik Larsson then opened his league account for his new club when he volleyed in a precise pass from Portugal midfielder Deco in the 77th minute.

REAL MADRID 1 NUMANCIA 0

David Beckham scored with a sweetly struck free kick to allow Real to make it two wins out of two and banish the memory of their four straight home defeats at the end of last season.

Beckham curled his 23-metre shot over the wall and sent it dipping into the corner in the 17th minute, but Real spurned a host of later chances to extend their lead and were given several scares during the second half by their modest opponents.
