Reports of Primera Liga soccer matches played on Sunday:

OSASUNA 1 ATHLETIC BILBAO 1

Osasuna claimed a point from a fast-paced derby despite playing almost all the second half with 10 men, following the dismissal of Josetxo for a tackle from behind on Santi Ezquerro in the 47th minute.

Bilbao had taken the lead in the 16th minute with a swift counter attack, Joseba Etxeberria taking a pass from Tiko and beating Ricardo Sanzol. Osasuna got the equaliser with a Savo Milosevic header from an Ivan Corrales cross five minutes before the break.

RACING SANTANDER 0 BARCELONA 2

Barcelona started the season with a sparkling victory that was all the more impressive given that Brazilian forward Ronaldinho was missing through injury.

Barca created a seemingly endless string of chances and the five new signings making their league debuts for the club -- Samuel Eto'o, Ludovic Giuly, Juliano Belletti, Deco and Henrik Larsson -- were outstanding.

Giuly converted a great cross from Belletti for the first after 68 minutes and Eto'o converted a penalty won by Xavi seven minutes later. Frank Rijkaard's new-look side should have scored more but good goalkeeping from Dudu Aouate kept them at bay.

REAL MALLORCA 0 REAL MADRID 1

Michael Owen came off the bench to provide the only goal for Ronaldo in a laboured victory for Jose Antonio Camacho's side.

Owen replaced the injured Raul midway through the first half and produced a deft cross for Ronaldo to chest in seven minutes after the break.

There was little else of note from Real, who were under pressure for the final few minutes as Mallorca fought back.

REAL SOCIEDAD 1 LEVANTE 1

Levante looked comfortable on their return to the top flight after an absence of 39 years, while Sociedad showed few signs of improvement from last season.

Ireland international defender Ian Harte put Levante ahead with a 35-metre free kick shortly before halftime but the home side claimed a point when Nihat Kahveci converted a pass from Bittor Alkiza.

REAL ZARAGOZA 3 GETAFE 1

Zaragoza, fresh from their Super Cup win over Valencia, took provisional top spot after coming from behind to claim an ultimately convincing win.

Jose Antonio struck on the rebound to give debutants Getafe the lead after 17 minutes but Alvaro headed in a free kick from Luciano Galletti for the equaliser six minutes later.

A Savio free kick surprised the keeper at the near post for 2-1 in the 63rd minute and Alvaro notched a second to wrap up the win.

SEVILLA 1 ALBACETE 0

Sevilla did just enough to claim the points from a poor game, with substitute Renato squeezing a close-range shot past Albacete keeper Raul Valbuena for the only goal early in the second half.

ATLETICO MADRID 2 MALAGA 0

Atletico produced an outstanding display to see off a Malaga side who look likely to struggle this season.

Fernando Torres twice went close with a back-heel flick and a powerful low shot before Atletico took the lead just before halftime when Ariel Ibagaza's shot came back off a post and rebounded in off Malaga keeper Juan Calatayud.

Torres finished off a swift counter-attack to make it 2-0 at the start of the second half and a home victory was never in doubt.

ESPANYOL 1 DEPORTIVO CORUNA 1

Deportivo Coruna were fortunate to escape with a draw from their opening game against Espanyol, who controlled the game up until the 58th minute sending-off of Ivan de la Pena.

Deportivo keeper Jose Molina gave away the crucial penalty in the 23rd minute when he mistimed his challenge on Raul Tamudo on the edge of the area. Tamudo, recently recalled to the Spanish international side, converted from the spot.

De la Pena's red card, apparently for something he said to the referee, changed the game and Deportivo claimed a draw when Walter Pandiani headed in a Pedro Munitis cross with 12 minutes to go.

NUMANCIA 1 REAL BETIS 1

Numancia made a promising return to the top division, holding firm against a Betis fightback for a point.

Midfielder Juanlu gave Numancia the lead in the 21st minute midway when he cut in from the wing and beat Toni Prats with a left-foot shot.

Betis got the equaliser in first-half injury-time with a Fernando header from an indirect free kick taken by Marcos Assuncao but despite having most of the possession they could not find a winner.
