ALBACETE 1 SEVILLA 4

Sevilla stayed in the race for a UEFA Cup place with this sparkling win over Albacete, who had defender Unai and midfielder David Sanchez sent off in the second half with the score at 1-1.

Uruguayan striker Dario Silva put Sevilla ahead late in the first half after breaking clear from inside his own half and they then made the most of their numerical advantage to add two more goals after Unai's dismissal.

Brazilian striker Julio Baptista took his tally for the season to 19 when he scored from the penalty spot after 51 minutes and midfielder Francisco Casquero slotted into the open net after a great pass from Silva two minutes later.

Midfielder Libero Parri pulled one back for Albacete midway through the second half, but they lost Sanchez soon after and striker German Hornos completed the rout with a well taken goal in the final minute.

ATLETICO MADRID 1 REAL ZARAGOZA 2

Atletico looked on course for the win they hoped to dedicate to former president Jesus Gil, who died on Friday, as midfielder Nano gave them the lead midway through the second half when he drilled the ball in after a neat assist from Demis Nikolaidis.

They appeared to be handed another boost when Zaragoza defender Carlos Cuartero was sent off a minute from time, but the Cup winners staged a remarkable comeback to snatch the win with two injury-time strikes from Delio Toledo.

The Paraguayan defender poked in from close range after a goalmouth scramble in the 91st minute and, to the dismay of the Atletico fans, completed a last-gasp win when he fired home after a rapid counter-attack in the final move of the game.

BARCELONA 1 RACING SANTANDER 0

Ronaldinho produced another sparkling display as he steered Barca to a 1-0 win that combined with Real's defeat at Murcia to put them in pole position for the runners-up spot.

The Brazilian manufactured a penalty for his side after beating two defenders and then converted the resulting spot kick himself to score his 15th goal of the season.

Barcelona had little problem holding on to their lead despite having to play the final 23 minutes a man down after fullback Carles Puyol picked up two quick-fire bookings.

MURCIA 2 REAL MADRID 1

Real's late-season implosion continued as they slumped to their fourth defeat in a row for the first time in their history after going down 2-1 to already relegated Murcia.

Midfielder David Beckham was sent off for insulting a linesman, while Zinedine Zidane will also miss the last match of the season after picking up another booking.

Former Real player Luis Garcia scored against his old side in the third minute after goalkeeper Iker Casillas spilled a Richi shot and added a second half-an-hour later from the penalty spot after Ivan Helguera handled in the area.

Substitute Guti pulled a goal back in injury time but it came far too late to prevent his side slipping to their fifth defeat in six games.

OSASUNA 1 ATHLETIC BILBAO 2

Bilbao clinched their place in next seaon's UEFA Cup with a thoroughly deserved win over Osasuna.

Francisco Yeste opened the scoring for the visitors with a perfectly struck free kick two minutes into the second half and centre-forward Ismael Urzaiz made it 2-0 with a trademark header just after the hour.

Midfielder Valdo grabbed a late consolation for the Navarrans with a low shot after the ball fell to him just inside the area.

REAL MALLORCA 4 ESPANYOL 2

Luis Fernandez's Espanyol threw away a two-goal lead and a chance to guarantee their survival in the top flight with this defeat against the islanders.

The Catalans gained an early reward for a determined start when leading scorer Raul Tamudo put them ahead with a penalty in the seventh minute and added a second 20 minutes later after a great through ball from midfielder Ivan de la Pena.

But Mallorca turned the game on its head after the break, striker Jesus Perera heading in just after the hour to make it 2-1 and Dutch forward Arnold Bruggink drilling home 10 minutes later to level the scores.

Perera struck once again four minutes from time after a great assist from Samuel Eto'o and midfielder Gonzalo Colsa completed the rout when he guided home deep into injury time.

REAL SOCIEDAD 1 MALAGA 1

Malaga's hopes of clinching a UEFA Cup place were ended after Sociedad came from a goal behind to earn a 1-1 draw in their final home match of the season.

Portuguese midfielder Duda put the Andalucians ahead with a powerful free kick after 64 minutes, but Sociedad striker Darko Kovacevic levelled when he turned in a fine cross from lively South Korean forward Lee Chun-soo eight minutes later.

DEPORTIVO CORUNA 3 CELTA VIGO 0

Celta were pushed to the brink of relegation by Galician rivals Deportivo after this comprehensive defeat.

The visitors made a promising start but were dealt an unfortunate early blow when Brazilian defender Silvinho turned into his own net after a cross from Deportivo winger Fran bounced on to his foot.

Uruguayan striker Walter Pandiani made it 2-0 with a perfect first-time finish and things went from bad to worse when Depor added a third just over a minute later, Pedro Munitis clipping home after a through-ball from fellow midfielder Sergio.

Celta's misery was compounded when Argentine defender Eduardo Berizzo was sent off seven minutes from time for a heavy challenge on Munitis.

REAL BETIS 1 VALLADOLID 0

Like Celta, Valladolid also look to be heading for the drop after this costly defeat.

The visitors dominated for much of the match, but despite a string of promising attacks they were unable to get the ball in the net and were powerless to respond when Brazilian midfielder Marcos Assuncao scored with a well struck dipping drive 15 minutes from time.

VILLARREAL 2 VALENCIA 1

With their minds clearly on next week's UEFA Cup final, champions Valencia slipped to their first defeat in 11 matches away to their regional rivals.

Brazilian striker Sonny Anderson put the home side ahead when he guided in after coolly controlling a long pass from fellow countryman Juliano Belletti and Argentine playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme made it 2-0 with a fine solo effort 12 minutes later.

Valencia defender Mauricio Pellegrino pulled one back for the visitors when he headed in from a corner before the break but a more determined Villarreal were good value for the win.
