Almeria extended their unbeaten run to seven matches and keeper Diego Alves kept yet another clean sheet with this win over their relegation-threatened opponents.

Leading striker Alvaro Negredo scored the winner when he dived between two defenders to head home a fine cross by Albert Crusat two minutes before the break.

ATLETICO MADRID 1 ATHLETIC BILBAO 2

Atletico failed to capitalise on an early goal from Antonio Lopez and Bilbao hit back with two goals before the break, midfielder Markel Susaeta drilling home after a great run by Javi Martinez and Fernando Llorente turning in a free kick with his calf.

Atletico's hopes of a fightback were effectively ended when midfielder Raul Garcia was sent off early in the second half.

GETAFE 0 VALENCIA 0

A dour, bad-tempered affair at the Coliseum with scoring chances at a premium as the two sides slugged it out for control of midfield.

The most noteworthy incident came when out-of-sorts Valencia striker David Villa was sent off for kicking out at Getafe midfielder Ruben de la Red 11 minutes after the break.

LEVANTE 2 OSASUNA 1

Levante fell behind early on when Osasuna midfielder Ignacio Monreal sent a shot bobbling in at the far post after a free kick, but they hit back with two goals at the start of the second half.

Unmarked Brazilian centre back Alvaro headed in at the far post on 55 minutes and striker Alexandre Geijo smashed home to put the finishing touch to a slick counter attack four minutes later.

VALLADOLID 1 REAL MALLORCA 1

Striker Joseba Llorente put Valladolid in front with his 12th goal of the season when he headed in during a goalmouth scramble after a corner eight minutes before the break.

Argentine playmaker Ariel Ibagaza earned the islanders a point from the penalty spot 11 minutes from time after Oscar Trejo was pulled back in the area. Mallorca defender Jose Carlos Nunes was sent off for a second booking in the closing minutes.

RECREATIVO HUELVA 3 DEPORTIVO CORUNA 2

Recreativo defender Beto cancelled out a Joan Verdu penalty with a header early in the second half only to be dismissed for taking off his shirt during his goal celebration.

French striker Florent Sinama Pongolle made light of the setback and put Recre 2-1 up with a thundering drive three minutes later, but Depor looked to have earned a point when Riki clipped in on the half volley.

Uruguayan defender Martin Caceres secured a dramatic win for the home side when he headed low into corner in the 88th minute.

VILLARREAL 0 RACING SANTANDER 0

Villarreal dominated for long periods at the Madrigal but failed to take advantage, with Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi missing a penalty early in the second half.

Rossi had the ball in the net a minute from time but the goal was disallowed for a disputed offside call.

ESPANYOL 2 SEVILLA 4

Sevilla raced into a 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes, Primera Liga leading scorer Luis Fabiano notching up his 17th of the season with the opener and African Footballer of the Year Frederic Kanoute adding the second.

Espanyol pulled one back before the break through Spain striker Luis Garcia but then had Argentine defender Pablo Zabaleta sent off on 65 minutes.

Sevilla midfielder Christian Poulsen then scored with a piledriver from the edge of the area to make it 3-1, Ferran Corominas responded with a great volley before winger Diego Capel wrapped up with a first-time finish from close range.

REAL BETIS 2 REAL MADRID 1

A second away defeat in a row for Real who took an early lead when Dutch midfielder Royston Drenthe ghosted in at the far post to steer in a neat pass from compatriot Arjen Robben.

Strugglers Betis turned the tables on the leaders before the break with two goals in the space of four minutes, Brazilian Edu heading in the first and former Liverpool winger Mark Gonzalez nodding in a carbon copy second.

REAL ZARAGOZA 1 BARCELONA 2

Barca claimed only their fourth win on the road this season in controversial fashion when Ronaldinho fired home from the penalty spot seven minutes from time after Zaragoza defender Juanfran was adjudged to have handled as he cleared his area.

Thierry Henry put Barca in front late in the first half when he steered in past keeper Cesar after appearing to control a through pass from Deco with his arm.

Argentine international Diego Milito missed a chance to equalise before haltime when he fired a penalty over the bar but strike partner Ricardo Oliveira levelled early in the second.
