REAL MADRID 2 REAL BETIS 0

Madrid enjoyed the early possession but Betis came alive after half an hour and were unlucky not to score when a David Rivas header hit the woodwork and Edu almost managed to seize on a defensive lapse.

At the other end, Raul missed a hatful of chances and Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder came close.

The turning point came in the 67th minute when Rivas brought Raul down in the area. Robinho's tap-in was disallowed as the whistle had already gone, but Real got their goal when Raul slotted home the resulting penalty.

Substitute Julio Baptista sealed the win with a spectacular bicycle kick from a corner, five minutes from time, to leave Betis still looking for their first win of the season.

ATHLETIC BILBAO 0 ATLETICO MADRID 2

Atletico's Argentine striker Sergio Aguero skipped round two defenders in the area before scoring the opener in the 12th minute.

Bilbao battled away and hit the woodwork twice but it was Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan who made sure of the points, sweeping in a loose ball from 25 metres out in the 78th.

BARCELONA 4 REAL ZARAGOZA 1

Argentine Lionel Messi curled in a shot after only five minutes to put Barca ahead but a fizzing reply from midfielder Alberto Zapater levelled the scores in the 10th.

Messi restored the advantage a minute later with an opportunist strike and then played Deco into the area in the 22nd minute.

The Portuguese midfielder crossed for Andres Iniesta to score at the far post. In the 45th, Deco's freekick hit the post and Mexican defender Rafael Marquez headed the rebound into the empty net. Zaragoza barely troubled Barca in the second half.

DEPORTIVO CORUNA 0 RECREATIVO HUELVA 2

Recre's Portuguese midfielder Carlos Martins reacted quickest to steer in a shot that rebounded off the post in the 13th and in the 47th striker Javi Guerrero's diving near-post header gave them a two-goal cushion.

OSASUNA 4 LEVANTE 1

Osasuna's Uruguayan striker Walter Pandiani powered in a header after 31 minutes but they held the lead for only three minutes before Ivorian midfielder Felix Ettien levelled from the edge of the area.

Pandiani slotted in his second in the 52nd, midfielder Juanfran profited from good work by Jaroslav Plasil for the third in the 57th and midfielder Javi Garcia wrapped up the side's first win in the 77th. Levante remain bottom.

RACING SANTANDER 0 VILLARREAL 2

Matias Fernandez's clever pass put Nihat Kahveci through on goal in the 40th minute and the Turkish striker scored with a precise finish.

Racing had midfielder Aldo Duscher sent off in the 63rd and Italian striker Giuseppe Rossi notched his fourth goal of the campaign with a deflected shot from Cani's pull-back.

REAL MALLORCA 4 VALLADOLID 2

Boosted by their positive showing against Real Madrid at the weekend, Valladolid went ahead in the sixth minute when Nigerian striker Bartholomew Ogbeche thumped in a 20-metre shot.

Striker Victor doubled the lead in the 26th but the game was turned on its head after the break. Portuguese defender Jose Carlos Nunes headed in from a corner in the 48th and Venezuelan forward Juan Arango volleyed in two minutes later.

Mallorca's Victor then matched his Valladolid namesake by getting on the score-sheet too. He benefited from hesitant defending to poach his side's third in the 83rd and Arango made it four on the counter in the 87th.

REAL MURCIA 0 ALMERIA 1

Almeria's Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo scored with a header from a corner in the 43rd and Murcia self-destructed as first Francisco Gallardo in the 61st and then Mario Regueiro in the 63rd were sent off.

VALENCIA 2 GETAFE 1

Getafe's Argentine goalkeeper Oscar Ustari had a debut to forget as he spilled a cross at the feet of Valencia's David Silva for the opening goal in the 16th and was then caught off his line as David Villa lobbed a second in the 32nd.

Getafe, still seeking their first win, came back stronger after the break and pulled one back as Braulio poked in a miscued shot in the 76th.

SEVILLA 2 ESPANYOL 3

Against the run of play, Espanyol midfielder Angel Martinez scored from outside the area in the 30th minute and Spain striker Luis Garcia doubled the lead, tucking away Albert Riera's cross in the 54th.

Sevilla came back when Jesus Navas's cross was turned into his own net by defender Daniel Jarque in the 61st and Ivory Coast striker Arouna Kone headed them level in the 69th.

But Espanyol substitute Raul Tamudo grabbed the winner in the 88th to gain some revenge for their defeat on penalties in the UEFA Cup final back in May.
