ALBACETE 3 REAL SOCIEDAD 1

Three goals in 12 second-half minutes gave former second division side Albacete a surprise win over last season's runners-up at the Carlos Belmonte stadium.

French midfielder Ludovic Delporte put Albacete in front with a fine near post header after 67 minutes, but Sociedad levelled five minutes later when Nihat Kahveci netted with a thundering volley from 12 metres.

Albacete midfielder David Sanchez put the home side ahead 15 minutes from time when he beat Sander Westerveld with a brilliantly executed 22-metre lob. The former Liverpool goalkeeper was caught off his line again when Carlos Aranda scored from close range four minutes later after his lob had bounced on to the line after hitting the bar.

BARCELONA 0 DEPORTIVO CORUNA 2

Barcelona-born players Albert Luque and Sergio scored in each half to give a well-organised Depor a valuable away win over the Catalans, who have yet to record a victory at the Nou Camp in the league this season.

Luque got his foot to a fine curling pass from defender Joan Capdevila to put Depor ahead on 41 minutes and former Espanyol midfielder Sergio made sure of the win when he drilled in from the edge of the area on 70 minutes after Juan Carlos Valeron had carved open the Barca defence.

CELTA VIGO 0 REAL MADRID 2

Brazilian duo Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos earned Real victory for the third year in a row at Balaidos against a disappointing Celta, who were a mere shadow of the side that claimed fourth place in last season's championship.

World Player of the Year Ronaldo opened with a typically efficient finish midway through the first half after a slick counter-attack involving Zinedine Zidane and Luis Figo.

Celta threatened to work their way back into the game after the break, but were clearly heading for defeat when defender Roberto Carlos smashed in from close range after cutting inside right back Juan Velasco on 65 minutes.
