Atletico missed the chance to overtake Osasuna in the fourth Champions League qualification slot as Racing scored 10 minutes from time to clinch a deserved point.

Racing took the lead when Sergio Matabueno finally managed to poke the ball in after a prolonged game of goalmouth pinball seven minutes after the break.

Atletico had the chance to hit back immediately only for Ariel Ibagaza to miss from the penalty spot but the home side were soon in charge in any case, with Veljko Paunovic and Kizito Musampa both scoring on the rebound.

Racing poured forward in search of an equaliser and it arrived in the 80th minute courtesy of Jonathan's penalty, after Gaspar had brought down Fernando Moran in the box.

REAL SOCIEDAD 1 VALLADOLID 3

Sociedad sank deeper into relegation trouble with another hapless performance that earned them whistles from their own fans as they left the field.

The home side went ahead in the fifth minute through Turkish forward Nihat Kahveci but Valladolid were back level by the half-hour, when Ariza Makukula took a cross from Javier Torres Gomez and managed to squeeze a shot past Alberto.

Oscar put the visitors ahead after 72 minutes on the counter-attack and Roberto Losada clinched the win four minutes from time. Sociedad's night went from bad to worse when they had defender Agustin Aranzabal sent off in injury-time.

VALENCIA 1 SEVILLA 0

Valencia looked short of inspiration in the first half but improved after the break and moved back top of the table thanks to a Mista header just past the hour mark.

With 61 minutes gone, Vicente raced down the left and provided a sharp cross for Mista to force a point-blank save from Sevilla keeper Esteban.

From the resulting corner, Mista met another cross from Vicente and this time there was nothing Esteban could do to stop it.
