Perez Sings Beckham's Praises

Real Madrid supremo Florentino Perez has applauded David Beckham following yet another exemplary performance by England's skipper in the heart of the Spanish giant's midfield.

The former Manchester United star was one of the chief orchestrators of Real's 4-2 thrashing of Olympique Marseille on Tuesday night, which further silenced the critics who predicted that Beckham would be a mega-flop at the Bernabeu.

"Beckham has been playing since the beginning of the season and, although it is only about opinions, I think he is playing in the right position (central midfield)," said the president of the mighty Madrid side.

"What's more," Perez added, "he has played with incredible desire which has enabled him to win over the public. With his effort, his quality and his commitment it is normal that he should have won over the Bernabeu so quickly."

When asked about whether he believes that Beckham is as happy to be at Real as they are to have him, Perez smiled widely before responding: "He is. A good test of that is the fact that his mother told me that her son was the happiest man in the world."
