Perez Defends Roberto Carlos's Record

Florentino Perez has leapt to the defence of Roberto Carlos after the Brazilian was sent off during the friendly international against Portugal.

The Real Madrid president cited Carlos's professional behaviour throughout his time at the Bernabeu, but he did confess to not having seen the red card incident.

Carlos was dismissed by Israeli official, Alon Yefet, after appearing to deliberately charge the ref as he protested the award of a foul against Rivaldo.

It is reported that Fifa could throw the book at the Madrid wing-back in a bid to stamp out aggressive behaviour towards matchday officials.

"The only thing I can say about Roberto Carlos is that in the ten years that I have known him his conduct on and off the field has been exemplary," Perez enthused.

"I have not seen the images from the Portugal and Brazil match, but his actions sound very out of character."

"But whatever is decided I do not believe that this incident will leave a black mark on his career."

Portugal won the match 2-1 thanks to goals from Pauleta and Deco, while Ronaldinho netted a penalty for Brazil.
