Perez blames over-confidence for Real slump

Real Madrid chairman Florentino Perez has admitted that over-confidence is probably to blame for the poor form his team has shown this season.

The Madrilenos, who ran away with the league title last season, find themselves in 16th position in the table with nine points to show from the first eight games.

Perez has confessed that the team are currently facing a crisis and has offered several reasons for their lacklustre league displays.

He said: "We're not doing well at all in the league. We haven't had much luck with many stars falling injured, players leaving for different international games and let's be honest, maybe we've been a bit too over-confident."

Perez added: "We began this campaign relaxed and too self-assured, that's a bad attitude to have but hopefully, with a measure of calm, we can get back up to the top of the table and start fighting for the title after Christmas."
