Pepe declares his desire to retire at Real Madrid after entering the last year of Los Blancos contract

Real Madrid defender Pepe has reiterated his desire to end his playing career at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The 33-year-old currently has one year left on his contract after signing his last extension in August 2015.

Pepe, who joined Los Blancos from FC Porto in the summer of 2007, has enjoyed a successful period with the Spanish giants and wants to hang up his boots in Madrid.

"I’d love to retire at Real Madrid," he said (via Football Espana).

"I’m happy at Madrid, my daughter studies here, for me it’s an easy decision."

"I’ve got this season and I’m happy, I’m a very positive guy."

"If I can give my best, the club can see that and hopefully sort this issue out."

Pepe has so far played in one of Real’s first three league matches of the season after being given an extended rest due to his excursions in France this summer.

The combative defender played an instrumental role in Portugal winning their first major international tournament featuring in all but one of their seven matches.
