Pepe And Fernando Gago Aiming To Extend Real Madrid Run
Madrid must continue to win if they are to catch Barcelona and defeating Malaga has kept confidence high at the club, according to two of their stars
Fernando Gago and Pepe were both delighted with Real Madrid's hard-fought win against Malaga in La Rosaleda on Saturday and hope to extend the club's 14-match unbeaten run.
Los Merengues secured a vital win thanks to a goal from Gonzalo Higuain and meant that madrid have now won 13 and drawn once in their last 14 matches.
After the game Gago stated that he was keen to see the team extend that run even further and that will be necessary if they are to catch Barcelona at the top of the table.
"We did a good job and deserved to win. The team played well and fought hard until the ref blew the final whistle," the Argentinian told the club's official website.
"There are nine finals left and we will try to win them all."
Pepe was pleased that Real Madrid were able to win after the weekend off for World Cup qualifiers and friendlies and admitted that beating Malaga was not easy.
"This is an important triumph following the international break," he said. "This team has proven it can overcome all adversity and that it will fight to win the league title to the end.
"Malaga complicated things for us, but we won thanks to our efforts."
