Pele urges Robinho to reject Real Madrid

Pele is urging Robinho to resist a move to Real Madrid and stay with Santos.

The winger is close to agreeing a deal to join Real for next season, but Pele, also a former Santos star, said: "When I stayed with Santos I was able to bring more people to the stadium to support Santos. If Robinho also stays, he will do the same."

"Robinho must stay."

Pele added: "When I was 19 years old and already a World Cup winner, Madrid made an incredible offer to me, but Santos made sure they improved my contract and I stayed."

"For several years the club rejected fantastic proposals from European clubs, until 1974, when I ended my career in Brazil (and joined New York Cosmos)."
