Owen "happy" with Real Madrid debut

Michael Owen admits the opportunity to join Real Madrid was just too good to refuse.

The former Liverpool striker made his debut and created the winner in Sunday's 1-0 victory over Real Mallorca.

"It's not a concrete thing, but I came here for the sake of my career," Owen told AS. "At Liverpool, I was scoring many goals and playing well. I was happy there."

"But the chance to come here and win titles was too good to refuse. I know that a football career is very short and I want to finish knowing I have done all I can in the game."

"I'm fortunate that I've been able to leave Liverpool on good terms - I'm happy about that."

On his debut in Mallorca, Owen added, "For me, it was important to make a good impression. I did some good things and some things not so well. But I'm happy with how it went."

"I made the goal for Ronaldo. He cannot speak English, and I can't speak Portuguese, but I could tell he was happy with my contribution."

"I prefer to score goals than create them. But it's nice to be involved and create something for a teammate."
